HEY! THERE’S NEVER ANY COVER CHARGE AT MY
OPEN MIC NIGHTS!..

  OLD WOMAG INTERVIEW: (paraphrased)
What makes you a good facilitator/organizer?
Am I? Well, I try to be. I have over one thousand Open Mic Night "hostings" under my belt (and it's a big belt); perhaps Practice Makes Perfect?
How many open mics - in how many different places - would you say you've conducted over the years?
As I said above, over a thousand. I've been hosting at least one a week non-stop for over thirteen years, now; and some years, 2006-present, saw/see (see-saw?) three (or four!) Open Mic Nights a week!
What are the open mics you do now?
Every Sunday is Rivalry (274 Shrewsbury St - Worcester), every Tuesday is:
..Greendale's Pub on 404 West Boylston Street here in Worcester, MA;
every Wednesday is held at:
Guiseppe's Grille in Northborough,
and every Thursday we rock: The "New" Biagio's [soon to be: Park Grille & Spirits] @ 257 Park Ave. in Worcester.
Who are some artists who stand out who have gotten their start at one of your open mics?
Off the top of my head: The Jennifer Lee Band, Mike Hulme, Sean Fullerton, Bill Johnson Band, Lisa Lawrence, Gary Atlas, Marc Wydom, Toreba Spacedrift, Jesse Garcia, Shawna Shenette, Meltdown, to name but a few... please forgive me those I've left out.
Do you think people who haven't tried it have the wrong impression sometimes - in other words, should they not be so scared to give it a whirl?
Everybody gets stagefright -- hell, Judy Garland barfed every night before she walked out on stage... or maybe that was all the speed and gin... anyway, no fears, mate. We won't bite... hard.
Why do you think these types of evenings are important?
If you want to play music and you're just starting out -- or even if you've been playing for years -- you shouldn't be relegated to your couch, campfire, or family BBQ. Come down and see me; I'll plug ya in and I promise we'll all clap real loud!
