OPEN STAGE MUSIC ON MYSPACE
Gavin Richardson's song, "Tunica County" is streaming on my profile. Give it a listen. It is featured on the Open Stage CD Sampler. Check the profile at the top of my friend's list. To order a CD, call Matt Meyer at 731-217-9225.
Many Open Stage regulars have pages on MySpace. You can hear Brandon Barnett, Jason Kurkimilis, Jay Hammond, David Carefoot (aka Wet China), Josh Petty, Rhinoceros Party, Garrett Tyler and many more. Just cruise through the FRIENDS pages and find them. There are always more coming on board, so check back frequently.
PROFILE:
The Open Stage features live acoustic music every Tuesday at the Downtown Tavern at 208 N. Liberty Street in downtown Jackson. It is hosted by W. Matt Meyer (who runs this space).
The Open stage is open to all kinds of music. We have seen folk rock, country, blues, hard rock and more. I would like everyone to feel welcome. It's a laid back venue.
Here's how it works. There is a sign up book at the bar and there are 11 open slots every week, every 15 minutes from 8:15 to 10:45 p.m. Of course, we don't always stick to the time exactly, but you'll get an approximate idea of when you will play.
If you want to play, you got to sign up at least the week before. Sometimes we can sneak people in, so come on and try, but be prepared to be told no.
Please come and just listen if you are unsure of the vibe. I'm sure you will enjoy it.
I'm the host and I play at 8 p.m. I usually play my favorite Dylan songs and a few others. Some recent favorites of mine have been anything by John Denver, some 80s pop (like "Down Under" (Men At Work) and "Dreaming" (Blondie)) and even Green Day and Oasis. Hey, I'm hip.
Actually, I'm not. I'm pretty retro and old school. I figure the stuff I like will always be in fashion in some small segment of the population. What I play often depends on who shows up. For example, if it is a small crowd, I will play more experimental stuff. (For me, this means a song I have never played before but I have a printout of the chords and lyrics. Hence "experimentation.")
Anyway, please come out. I beg you. I'll buy you a donut. Contact me for more information - w_matt_meyer@yahoo.com or call 217-9225.
Who I'd like to meet: People who can play guitar, sing a song, bang a drum, shake a tamborine, sashay with maracas, blow a horn or generally make a joyful noise. Please add me as a friend and pass on the word so people can enjoy the good times.

Dawn’s twin sister Sherrie accepts The Geri Lester Heroes of Breast Cancer Courage Award – In Memory from the Karmanos Cancer Institute on Dawn’s behalf in a video recorded on October 22, 2007.
