THE BEGGAR'S OPERA
In the midst of a 21st century Great Recession, Portland drowns in homelessness, joblessness, gang violence, sexcapading politicians and booming art, music and sex industries. Drop a genre-busting chamber-pop band into the mix, and you've got Opera Theater Oregon's world premiere production of "The Beggar's Opera."

ABOUT OTO
Small and alternative, Opera Theater Oregon delivers hip, entertaining performances of opera, usually in English, and rarely longer than the average Chuck Norris movie. Our goal is to introduce opera to new audiences while offering a new angle on the art form for confirmed opera lovers. Our innovative and accessible shows preserve the beauty of the music while playing shamelessly with format. Home sweet home is the Someday Lounge, a comfortable Chinatown bar that lets you cozy up to the stage, drink in hand. We’re also committed to using local talent and non-traditional orchestration.
RECENT PRODUCTIONS "Opera Cinema": An ongoing series presenting silent films with a live soundtrack. Recent offerings have included a gin 'n sin-soaked night of Dada short films, Cecil B. DeMille's 1915 classic Carmen paired with music from the opera of the same name by Georges Bizet, and sensuously haunting 1921 silent film Camille paired with music from Verdi's opera La Traviata.
"The Medium":
"Muscle-Max": a bel canto masterpiece set down in the mall, circa 1985, with a lovelorn food court worker, an unscrupulous nutritional supplement salesman and (of course), a men's competitive aerobics team. A new English-language production based on Gaetano Donizetti's The Elixir of Love.
"Will Kill for Vaudeville": A dark comic tribute to end-era vaudeville, filtered through the demented perspective of aging former child star Baby Ethel Million. Featured arias and ensembles from French lyric opera, music by vaudeville greats like Victor Herbert, A. Baldwin Sloane and Albert von Tilzer, and a bit of AC/DC, for flavoring.

Dearest OTO- I'm so very bummed life interrupted my opportunity 2 see 'The Medium'..I'll never know the magnitude of what I missed.
But nevertheless, I am so very excited for OTO; the Cast, Volunteers, Staff, and of course our Artistic Director Katie & Executive Director Elizaebeth and PR guru Georgette, and these infamous 'Co-Conspiritors, and most of all Supporters - allbof which I've yet to meet. OTO thrives and inspires from your enthusiasm and support! Of which, I am happy to associate.
