About me: SafeHouse is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the safety and well-being of children in crisis. Every year, more than 600 youth between the ages of 12 and 18 turn to SafeHouse for guidance and support.
Founded in 1990, SafeHouse is the only facility of its kind in the Riverside County area providing core essential services for runaway and homeless youth.
Who I'd like to meet: Here are the components to our agency:
Emergency Shelter: A 24-hour site providing core services (shelter, food, clothing, counseling, and recreation).
Community Day School: A partnership with Riverside County Office of Education to provide shelter residents with on-site piblic school education and credit accumulation.
Project Safe Place: A collaborative outreach effort with community businesses to assist youth in crisis.
Main Street Transitional Living Program: This 15-unit apartment complex provides supervised, independent living space for homeless young adults ages 18 to 21. The program offers opportunities to learn life skills necessary to move towards self-sufficiency and permanent housing.
SafeHouse of the Desert: SafeHouse is pleased to announce plans for a new shelter in the Coachella Valley. This will be an emergency shelter providing food, clothing, and on-site educational services. Services will also include couseling services for runaway and homeless youth. SafeHouse of the Desert is scheduled to open its doors to serve the Coachella Valley area in 2006!!!!
As an advocate for many years I try to bring awareness of the issues that the youth in our country have to face. I've done this through my speaking engagements and now my book Runaway. I'm so happy to befriend others who share the same concerns and make efforts towards helping young adults as I do.
