"The Operator", in its current form, is the result of a top-secret scientific find made in 1979 by the American Federal Institute for Antarctic Research (AFAR). While surveying the coastline of Queen Maude Land, the frozen form of an unidentifiable alien artefact was discovered locked in the eternal ice. The artefact was never catalogued by the scientific experts of AFAR, but immediately surrendered to the control of an impromptu consortium of international scholarly authorities on extraterrestrial beings. The group began studying the artefact, subjecting it to extreme heat and cold, electroshock and magnetic pulses, radiation and other extraordinary conditions in order to ascertain the spectrum of its biochemical make-up. Suddenly, while being subjected to a bath of patterned audio waves, the artefact reanimated and morphed into a humanoid form. "The Operator", as the artefact calls itself, claims to be a component of a sophisticated experiment, the goal of which being to discover a model of complex feeling and conscious thought through the application of rhythm and melody. "The Operator" has since been released by the consortium to continue its mission in Berlin, Germany, the human capital of electronic music and an ideal testing ground for this bizarre experiment.
