The Opiates
Forthcoming album: Hollywood Under The Knife
The Opiates started with the intention of being an ambient project. Bored, they soon said: f…ck this, and wrote the kind of songs that moved them in cerebral as well as booty shaking ways.
The Opiates are Robert Solheim and Billie Ray Martin.
Their forthcoming album ‘Hollywood Under The Knife’ explores paths pioneered by the Chicago house and Detroit techno heroes, not least Electribe 101, with the aim of taking things forward a step in history.
Although Kraftwerk and Yazoo have been mentioned as influences, their very unique brand of electronic music is as much Carpenters as it is cutting-edge electro, with a nod to current minimal influences.
The Opiates are radical because they do not shy away from the rare match of songwriting and cutting-edge beats and bleeps.
Hollywood Under The Knife will boldly go where the best of electronic duo crossover albums have gone before and will appeal as much to the charts as to the underground, to film and television as much as radio and beyond.

"A mountain of fake hair" sounds like a carefully written down insult between the Collins sisters Joan and Jackie, written in horrific pink lipstick of course. "Is that eyeliner or blood around your eyes" would be the reply naturally. Anyway...!
I came back into focus with the group today on youtube and was blown away by hearing Reality TV in full for the very first time. Perviously, I was sustained merely by a leaked 1 minute demo recording. It has a chorus that circulates the blood stream, and the synth-jerks are obviously choking on something a bit hard to swallow..
I love the aesthetic of the recordings, in particular "Rainy Days and Saturdays," "Are You Loathesome.." and "Silent Comes The Night" (which is sung like a voyeaur staring through her venecian blinds).
The production is the life support machine to the character Billie sings of or as. Glamour is always grotesque and The Opiates are a sympathetic consultation, full of warning, yet willing to go ahead with the procedures requested. Anaesthetic option, or at least until it runs out.
your song are my morning walking to work throught the river. i feel like im on a b-m0vie. fucking loved them. BRM.Can do yo anything wrong. You're fricking lovely. Please never stop. I need my diva, if you don't mind. Ariel XX
