The Opossum Trot Blues Band is based out of Opossum Trot Hollow, near Morehead, Kentucky. The brain child of Gary "The Blind Possum" Cornett, OTBB is a musical whirlwind throwing down shades of Zeppelin and other rock gods of yesteryear on every piece of music they touch. They almost defy genre at times, pushing their way into country, funk, bluegrass, and metal. They never forget that it's all rooted in one type of music though: The Blues. OTBB has evolved, and appeared with many different configurations, but has never failed to entertain the folks that gather to listen. OTBB is a band that would have been much more at home in the 60's. In addition to some original compositions, they cover songs by blues greats such as John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Elmore James, and Mississippi Fred McDowell. It's not unusual to hear anything from the time of the blues until now pop into the set list though. The OTBB has always been a diverse collection of music fans, as well as musicians.
The OTBB has been traveling from Ohio down to Mississippi for the last four years, playing their hearts out everywhere from street corners to bar rooms to auditoriums. They've appeared at many blues and rock festivals, and even made radio and television appearances.
What People Have to Say about the OTBB:
“The Opossum Trot Blues Band play a high-energy set of rock'n blues taking turns with Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Lightnin' Hopkins. Their music is full of passion for the blues and early rock'n roll with a throwback to the days of The Yardbirds, J. Geils and Paul Butterfield Blues Band. More bands should be this dedicated to the music. They may be playin' opossum, but they're sound isn't dead--it's rock'n blues baby!”
-Paul Hitchcock, host
Nothin' But The Blues,
Morehead State Public Radio,
"If you're gonna play music, play Nothin' But The Blues"
“They are young, talented and fun, and they have the drive.”
-Karly Higgins, of the Clack Mountain String Band
"I like you boys 'cuz yer loud and got BALLS!"
-Old fella at a festival
The OTBB recently finished thier self-titled aslbum, which is now available on CD. You can contact the band at blind.possum@gmail.com or (606)356-4607.
