Opportunity Maine's Blurbs |
About me:
Hi Friends,
Opportunity Maine has mobilized people from across this great state of ours to make college education more affordable for each and every Mainer. We took to the streets... literally... in warm weather and cold, to ask one important question:
Do you want to help make college more affordable?
More than 70,000 people answered with a resounding "Yes!" On January 25th, we brought boxes and boxes and boxes filled with signatures of Maine voters who believe as we do that higher education is not just something that should be available to those who can afford it. Mainers joined us in saying that every Mainer should be able to afford an opportunity to pursue and finish either a two- or four-year degree.
Did you know..
- Mainers with a Bachelor's Degree earn an average of 15,000 dollars more per year than those with a high school diploma?
- Mainers with an Associate's Degree earn an average of 9,000 dollars more per year than those with a high school diploma?
- Maine has 30% less degree-earners than the rest of New England. Also... Maine's salaries are an average of 30% less than the rest of New England.
Coincidence? We think not!
On February 26th, we will hear from the Secretary of State whether we have the necessary signatures to take this to the ballot next year. In the interim, please e-mail your local legislator and tell them that they need to pass this legislation when it comes across their table!
