   Hailing from the musical melting pot of Nashville, TN, The Opposed is the next sonic force in music.

   From Indiana: Brian Volckmann (Guitar) had put in 5 years and over 150 shows in an acoustic duo called Slow to Speak. After moving to Nashville, Slow to Speak hooked up with Texan, Edwin Rivera (drums). Edwin was brought in to record on a song that Brian had re-written to be a much harder sound than he had previously been working with. They played one show with a full band, and then decided that they were in need of more edgy, loud, creative and heavy songs.

   Edwin and Brian moved on and hooked up with Edwin's roomate CJ Wheeler (bass), most recently from Colorado. CJ converted from guitar to play bass and they started practicing and honing their sound. It was then that the band decided to name themselves "The Opposed" sometime around February 2007. (The name is a reference to the attitude that a Christian should have as it pertains to our relationship with the World inspired by Luke 12:53 and 1 Corinthians 2:12.)

   A classified post on Craigslist brought another Texan Joey Albin(guitar) to the mix in June of 2007. A student at Nashville's Belmont University, Joey tried out as the singer initially, but then when he showed the guys what he could do on the guitar, everyone was blown away. The decision was made that Joey would stay as the lead guitar and the band began looking again for a new lead singer that could handle the difficult melodies the band had been crafting. Brian's voice couldn't handle the vocals as the full time singer and was suffering from chronic laryngitis as a result of the attempts.

   The Opposed played it's first show at The Muse, in Nashville, with Brian on Vocals. It was during this time, the band was courting Joey's roomate, Matt Singleton (Vocals) to come audition for vocalist. Matt, a graduate of Belmont and burgeoning sound engineer from South Carolina, was a perfect fit for the sound the guys had been developing. Matt brought range and power to the songs and more importantly, completion.

   The band now stands on the precipice of their first release. The 5 song EP entitled, "Initiate." This album promises to introduce this band to the world with a bang. An independent project , this album captures all of the influences and creativity that The Opposed represents. Bringing elements from Modern Rock, Alternative, Metal, and Pop together, making a fierce, melodic sound that grabs you and doesn't let go. The culmination of years of learning their craft, the five men in The Opposed are true professional musicians, working hard and continuing to be passionate about something they feel called to do, rock faces off with blistering riffs, soaring choruses, and massive breakdowns, leaving all who stand in their wake breathless and wanting more.
