  • Bio

After years spent adding texture and background for bands and artists from Chicago to Los Angeles, Paul Bessenbacher (PB to those who know him) has created his own project with Opus Orange. Growing up in Northern California PB spent his college years at a music conservatory outside Chicago. It was there that he honed his craft as an accomplished concert pianist by day and spent his nights in Chicago area clubs as a member of bands Waterworks and Orange was the Color of Her Dress. From Chicago PB returned to California. Landing in Los Angeles in 2002, PB got mixed up with a community of like-minded artists and musicians, like composer/vocalist Lauren Hillman of Kotomi and multi-instrumentalist Jo Pusateri. This is Opus Orange. The Opus Orange EP was recorded over the summer of 2010 at Emoto Music in Santa Monica. At first listen, the ukulele finds a new home in Opus Orange's brand of indie-pop. It’s after the second or third spin that you begin to appreciate the deft percussion, Mingus-loving bass, sweet and sprinkled guitar, subtle Rhodes, and yes . . . a toy piano. With recent placements in TV spots for Apple’s iPhone, AT&T and Buick, the early word is that Opus Orange has a few fans. Opus Orange plans to release a full length record in Summer 2011.
