Written in 2008 by the gritty British playwright, Chris O'Connell, “Zero” is set in a future where hundreds of military camps have been created to extract information - at any cost - from suspected enemy combatants of the Global Economic Alliance, a supreme governance created by the wealthiest nations. Alex, a translator at Camp Zero, is shocked to find that torture and coercion are the only tactics employed in the interrogation rooms. He is compelled to expose the brutal inhumanity that occurs regardless of whether or not the detainees are indeed terrorists. In a world consumed with self-fulfillment, Alex and everyone around him discover that exposing the truth can bring the downfall of reason. Driven mainly by narrative and less by politics, “Zero” pits characters against each other to see how far people are willing to go to protect themselves from fear of the unknown. It envisions a world 40 years beyond Obama and Guantanamo; it envisions a world beyond an economic-stimulus solution; it envisions a world one generation from now where citizens have lost control of their money, their civility, and their lives.
Headed by Artistic Director Ben Fuchsen, “Zero” will feature lighting design by Oracle Company member Eric Van Tassell; sets by Timeline technical director James Ogden; costumes by Michael J. Braaksma; original music and soundscape by former Brooklyn-er Mark McCray (aka DJ Lift); with video installations by Timmy Tamisiea and Andy Papke.
”Zero” runs May 2 through June 21, 2009. Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. A suggested donation of $20 can be made at the door, or online by visiting oracletheatre.org.

And all through the house
Not a creature was stirring
Except for a monster or two.
Zombie Santa's days are past
And nary a brain pan in sight.
Screech into the night,
And understand the fright
This merry jingle jangle
Is only a prelude mangle;
The real fun, the blood
The bones, the gooey bits
Are soon to follow you Miss.
Scream loudly if you want to
You'll still be a puddle of goo.
So, have fun, one and all.
Be merry with the scary
Seek joy, understanding
Hard work and effort
Mass production sucks
But the Horror never ends.
Be at peace, be at odds
With the moment, the meter
And comes wisdom my dear.
Keep killing 'em, stay dead
Don't forget to shoot the head
Hope your Christmas was good
The New Year will be even better!

"I think I have just seen the future of American Theatre.”
—Michael Bourne, Circle Repertory Company
“Spiritually barren lives given meaning by fundamentalist religion. Comfortable lifestyles devoid of passion. And the finality of the gun. All reflect what happened to American values . . . and they form the subject of Edward Crosby Wells’ challenging new play, Flowers out of Season . . . one of the best things this innovative theater has done.”
—Jeff Bradley, Denver Post
*This play contains violence, sexual themes and language. There are also gunshot sound effects.

Disturbed II
This year Metromix has described Disturbed as:
“Disturbed II” is not a haunted house, per se, but this 15-minute play by Oracle Productions just might be more bone-chilling than any haunted spectacle.
Last year Disturbed enjoyed a Sold out run; dont be left behind this year. Secure your tickets now! You can buy online, by clicking the Buy Tickets link in the lefthand panel.
Last year Time Out Chicago called the original DISTURBED, “crap-your-pants scary,” claiming, “…the storefront mind-fuck…makes for a wicked (Halloween) alternative.” Once again combining live action, multimedia, sound and special effects DISTURBED II bombards participants with a gruesome multi-sensory experience. This year, company member Colby Hanik spearheads the technically stunning endeavor as both writer and director. The performances feature company members David Boren and Julie Potesta on stage, Jorge Madrigal’s always impressive lighting design, Aaron DeYoung’s menacing sound landscape, and Justin Warren’s haunting make-up design.
DISTURBED II runs at Oracle Theatre, 3809 N. Broadway October 12-14, 18-21, and 25-31 at 8PM with 15 minute performances every half hour until 11:30PM. Admission is $9 donation at the door, $7 dollars with advanced reservation; reservations are recommended, but not required. Visit www.oracletheatre.org for more information.

Here is the deal peeps...
I turn 26 on the 25th of July...which is a Wednesday. Middle of the week. But I have things going on the weekend before and the weekend after.
Plus...I try not to discriminate againt Wednesdays...especially when my BIRTHDAY falls on one.
So I am having a fiesta at WhirlyBall on Weds the 25th. For those of you who have never played WhirlyBall before you are in for a treat (I popped my cherry about six months ago).
In short, it is bumper cars mixed with whiffle ball mixed with beer and liquor.
Check out the website for all the details: http://www.whirlyball.com/what/
Yes it is also a bar (you lushes) so you are all invited to just come and celebrate...BUT...I am trying to figure out how many people want to play so I know how long to rent the court for.
I am thinking either 8pm-9:30 or 8pm to 10pm. Everyone will be rotating in and out in 15 minute intervals.
I am GUESSING it will come to between $10 and $15 per player...well worth it! But we will split up the cost evenly amoung the # of players the night of.
So RSVP in one of 3 ways:
1) Call me at (847) 414-9205
2) Myspace me
3) Email me at aaron@oracletheatre.org
Recaping...
My B-Day,
July 25th, 7pm-11pm
WhirlyBall is at 1880 West Fullerton, Chicago, IL 60614
Are you gonna play or just hang out?
If you are not comming I expect a creative excuse!
Peace and Carrots,
Aaron Shapiro
