"Simply put. Great songs, sung by a great singer, played by a great band" -Jeff Lowe Loud Fast Rules
Joe Dexter effectively uses his deep raspy voice to encourage individuality and not compromise one's self. Orange intended to create an entertaining punk album promoting self respect, and as a result, Escape From L.A. is a record even Social Distortion would be proud of.

What do you do when your band mates decide that after being with you for seven years, touring America and Canada constantly, releasing two very well-received albums and being your childhood best friends that this “whole music thing” isn’t really what they want to do and they quit? You really have two options: quit or carry on.
Thankfully ORANGE’s Joe Dexter (vocals/bass) and Zak Glosserman (drums) have decided to positively move forward by inviting the best musicians they had met while on tour over the past four years to join their outfit. Both Perry Ladish (rhythm guitar) and Brendan Minded (lead guitar) said yes and a newer, brighter, fresher ORANGE was reborn. Thus their third album for Hellcat Records due out this September is aptly titled PHOENIX as it represents a band rising out of its own ashes to triumphantly produce their best album to date.
Rising above and meeting challenges is something ORANGE’s frontman Joe Dexter is very familiar with. Having the genetic disease cystic fibrosis from birth, he has had to struggle every day to lead the normal life that most of us take for granted. “Living with cystic fibrosis isn’t easy. It’s something I've lived with all my life and it affects everything I do. At the end of the day, I’m not doing this just for me though. I want to be an inspiration to people and encourage them to have the courage to follow their dreams. If other people with less fortunate circumstances than most can see what I’m doing and take heart from it, then I feel I will have done my job to the best I can.”
Phoenix was produced by Gavin MacKillop, whose previous credits include PIL, Sugarcult, MXPX. and Toad the Wet Sprocket, and was recorded at Mad Dog Studios in Burbank, California. “This album has really gone above and beyond what both Joe and I thought was going to be the next level,” says McKillop. “I’ve been around a long time and worked with a lot of bands and I was really taken back by the excellent musicianship these boys have shown throughout the whole recording process-- It’s a record I’m extremely proud to have been a part of and definitely a highlight of my career.”
On the 12 tracks featured on the album, ORANGE broaden their musical spectrum. The Los Angeles-based foursome draw on diverse influences and stretch themselves musically and lyrically, mixing genres and trying to create a unique sound, something they do most notably on the first single “Standing Still.” The band still knows how to have fun, however, and old school ORANGE fans definitely won’t be disappointed by “Everything I Need,” “Happening Today” and “Each Other.” All three tracks are laced with outstanding choruses and all are utterly anthemic and optimistic, while The Clash-influenced rocker “Desperation” shows a darker side of Dexter.
The album closes with a powerful cover of Lou Reed’s classic “Perfect Day” which sums up the entire record, well, perfectly. Phoenix takes you on a wonderful journey from start to finish--one that even the toughest of hearts will be more than excited to take again and again.
