Orange Shoeshine formed from a jelly-like mass in 1984, experimenting (unbeknownst to him) with a room-mate's DX-7 and Fostex 4-track cassette deck. "All Day and All of the Night" bubbled out of the jelly-like mass and The Kinks woulda rolled over if they had heard it. Instead, the ooze remained buried 40 feet below the Manhattan surface in Little Italy, near an unused well that had been forgotten.
Resurfacing in 1994 to cover the Four Tops"Ain't Too Proud to Beg", mixed with Bo Diddley's "Hey Bo Diddley" The Orange boys were too proud to release it, and the unheard aural globule remained buried at the bottom of 16 Sobe cases full of unlabeled cassettes and thrift store 8-track tapes, having been recorded on Alabama thrift store reel to reel tape on a Fostex 8-track machine that was sold to 8 on August 8.
Another long hiatus ensued in which longer periods of time would have sufficed. But by a freakish happenstance in January 2004, Orange Shoeshine recorded another masterpiece, this time in a real 24 track digital studio, and the motive that was born motivated the long-time unknown members to come clean with the past and release the aural documents to an unsuspecting 21st century audience.
Look for the fourth installment of the ten year Orange Shoeshine composition plan to arrive sometime in 2014, just in time for the XXII Olympic Winter Games. Salzburg, Austria, perhaps? We shall see.
