Firstly, thanks for looking at the page. Secondly, since you're here, please actually take the time to listen to a couple of our tracks - our style can change a hell of a lot from song to song, so if you only listen to the first thing that gets played you won't really get an idea of what we sound like. Feedback (at least the constructive kind) is always welcome!
The songs above are taken from our first E.P "In no sense Lost", which was largely recorded in the singer's bedroom only 7 weeks after the full band started playing together.
Biography
Orchid Fixation was born on New Year's Day 2005. After deciding to leave his old band, Steve Phipps immediately started writing new material. Within a few weeks he found himself with a wealth of new songs, but no one to play them with. He got in touch with Dan Sluckin (an old ex-band mate) about drumming for the new band. In mid-February, Steve and Dan started jamming, and Steve approached Ian Griffiths about filling in on bass until someone else was found. Instead, he joined full time. The full line-up was rehearsing together by the beginning of March.
Our music is a mixture heavy styles and often difficult to pigeonhole; there is an obvious epic, melodic core, but with a much wider range of influences, at times playing grind at one end of the scale or sludge at the other, with a touch of post-hardcore and a few Gothic flourishes too - drawing comparisons to Earthtone9, Deftones, Alice In Chains, Pig Destroyer, Vision Of Disorder and Cult Of Luna. Although there is regular use of heavily distorted guitars and throat-shredding vocals, there is a sense of sombre melody throughout the songs.
