Oregon State Parks's Blurbs |
About me:
It started in 1922 when the Helmick family donated land for a park along the Luckiamute River in the Willamette Valley. Since then, people have donated and sold land to the state to build a 100,000 acre state park system.
Lately, parks have been growing. Oregonians passed a ballot measure in 1998 to support state parks with money from the Oregon Lottery. The money buys new parks (thousands of acres so far), and repairs the ones that were wearing down a bit. Some of the money also goes into grants for towns and counties so they can buy, fix and grow the parks and historic places they provide to their communities.
