About me:
One of the many photocopied cut-and-paste fanzines that emerged during the home video explosion of the 1980s, TEMPLE OF SCHLOCK was founded in Syracuse, NY in July 1987 by 15 year-old Paul DeCirce and 16 year-old Chris Poggiali. Heavily influenced by Steve Puchalski’s SLIMETIME, which was published across town and distributed in the Syracuse University area, TEMPLE OF SCHLOCK reviewed new and old horror, action and exploitation movies that were being released to theaters and videocassette. During the four years of the Temple’s existence, Paul and Chris – with tremendous help from their dedicated staff of writers and artists – produced 24 issues and accumulated close to 150 subscribers from all over the world. It wasn't a very good-looking ‘zine, and at times it was barely legible, but TEMPLE OF SCHLOCK was a product of its time: a time when you had to use a typewriter, scissors, scotch tape, glue stick and the United States Postal Service to put together the type of thing you’re reading right now – a time before Internet blogs and message boards made it possible for anyone with a computer to express themselves with the push of a button.
