Kirstie's story
NYC 10-20-2009
On October 20th, 2009, my dream came true. I had met Tokio Hotel before, at two other signings, so this was my third. It was no regular signing for me, though. This one was special. A few days before the signing, Cherrytree Records was holding a contest on their live radio show, and to win you had to answer a question in their chatroom on their official site. There would be four winners that would each win a pair of VIP passes; the first four to answer the question being asked. I didn't win, so I just thought it wasn't meant for me. The next day, they were giving away one more pair of passes. I tried my luck again, and listened to their podcast and got in the chat. Different question this time. The question asked was, "What was Tokio Hotel's name before it was Tokio Hotel?" OF COURSE I knew the answer, who doesn't?! My fingers have never worked so fast or shaken so much. As I sent Devilish, I saw maybe 50 more of the same answer being sent at the same time. I thought I had no chance....but then I heard Martin of CT say on the radio, "We have a winner; Kirstie Estrella. Congratulations!" I never screamed so loud. Mind you, I assumed the pass was just a guarantee into the signing whether passes sold out or not, and that we got to go in before the rest of the line. Fast forward to the day of the signing. The other winners and I, (and our plus one's we brought along) were sitting in Best Buy waiting to get taken to the boys. We were given Cherrytree Records tshirts, buttons, and they even gave us record label copies of Humanoid, and Humanoid posters. And then they said, "You guys get to take pictures with the band after their photo session. You'll get one on your camera, and one on a professional." I almost cried. I sat in shock for the next twenty minutes and waited. When it was my time to take the photos with them...well, all I remember is the walk over to them, the smiles from them, and me shaking. I remember each of them saying hello, and Bill and Georg putting their arms around my back as I stood between them. I remember my hands around their waists, and the way they smelled. Bill smelled almost like candy, it was insane. I hope I didn't squeeze his side too hard, because to be honest, I was so nervous I had no idea what I was doing. When the pictures were over, I said thank you to each of them, got everything signed, etc. The saying, "Third time's a charm" is absolutely true in my case. Third time meeting them was definitely the best for me. I honestly feel so lucky. I have been a fan of this band for over three years, and just between 08-09 I have been to 7 concerts, 3 signings, 3 tv shows (TRL twice, and Alexa Chung), and seen them in other places such as outside after interviews, etc. All together, I have been in their presence 17 times. I even flew down to Dallas, Texas to go to the show in August 08. ;) Basically, this band means everything to me. I wish they knew just how much they've affected my life.
