Oriole Post is a blend of music rooted in Bluegrass, Country & Americana Folk. These sounds rang through Kansas & Missouri and resonated in the soul with stories that still weigh heavy on the heart and mind. We try to capture the color of our history, the things that have affected and inspired us.
Rachel Bonar (Vocal, Guitar) and Michaela Meckel (Fiddle) were roommates and they wanted to play music together. Rachel, a songwriter, continued to work on music that would become the bedrock for us. She was asked to play at a friend’s house in the Summer of 2007. Along with Michaela, she asked some friends who played in another project with her (Miller Howell) to join in for the show. Seth Jenkins (Mandolin) & Roger Strong (Double Bass) worked with Rachel on the first arrangements of the songs. Michelle Strong (BG Vocal) came in after a few rehearsals, and we played that Summer evening. There wasn’t a plan or direction for the group at the time. We just enjoyed playing music together. We continued getting together, and after a few more shows, Bill Pollock (Drummer) sat in on a practice and has been with the band ever since.

Cool Thanks for becoming a Friend of Maple Wood Nature Preserve. We are working hard to add 7.3 acres of pristine forest to the preserve.
