El 3 de junio de 2008, Orishas publica Cosita buena, su esperado cuarto álbum de estudio. Compuesto, producido y arreglado por el emblemático trío cubano formado por Roldán González, Hiram Riverí “Ruzzo” y Yotuel Romero, el disco se grabó en febrero de este año en Samurai Studio de Madrid, fue mezclado por Tim Latham (Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Erykah Badu, De La Soul, Lou Reed...) en SynSound Recording Estudios de Bruselas y masterizado por Tom Coyne (Beyoncé, Common, Kayne West, DJ Shadow, Britney Spears...) en Sterling Sound en Nueva York. Una producción internacional para un grupo que lanza su música a la aldea global.
Cosita buena contiene 12 canciones (Cosita buena, Maní, Bruja, Camina, Guajira, Borrón, Mírame, Que quede claro, Machete, Isi, Público y Melodías) a las que se añade como bonus track Hip Hop Conga, canción oficial del Carnaval 2008 de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, en cuya letra hay referencias constantes a determinados símbolos de la capital canaria, de sus habitantes y de la isla.
Con sólo tres álbumes publicados, Orishas se ha convertido en un emblema de nueva música del siglo XXI. Roldán, Ruzzo y Yotuel nacieron en La Habana y su música y su fama comenzaron a cimentarse en Europa, donde se considera su revolucionaria fusión de hip hop y son cubano como una de las grandes aportaciones artísticas de los últimos años. Con tres discos publicados, Orishas también se ha ganado a pulso el respeto en Estados Unidos y Latinoamérica gracias a una música potente, imaginativa y enraizada, que ha dado canciones convertidas en himnos como Represent, ¿Qué pasa? o Nací Orishas.
En mayo de 1999, Orishas (palabra africana que en yoruba quiere decir semidioses) publicó su primer álbum, A lo cubano, que se convirtió en el primer disco de hip hop que conseguía el Disco de Platino en España con más de 100.000 ejemplares vendidos. También consiguió Oro en Francia (más de 100.000 ejemplares vendidos) y Suiza. Después de más de 200 conciertos por todo el mundo, en abril de 2002 apareció Emigrante, con canciones más profundas y una producción más internacional. El álbum se presentó en una gira que recorrió diez países y en 2003 Orishas ya era una banda incontestable, elegida por la revista Time como uno de los grupos extranjeros más importantes junto a U2, Radiohead y Pulp. Ese año ganó el Grammy Latino al Mejor Disco de Hip Hop/ Rap y fue nominado a los premios Grammy en la categoría de Mejor Álbum Rock Alternativo Latino.
En febrero de 2005, Orishas publicó El kilo, su tercer álbum, que consiguió el Premio de la Música en España al Mejor Disco de Hip Hop, alcanzó el estatus “oro” en Suiza, Portugal y España y fue nominado a los Premios Grammy y Grammy Latinos, asentando definitivamente la música de Orishas en todo el mundo. En 2007 se lanzó Antidiótico, la primera recopilación de sus éxitos y de sus canciones más populares y representativas, en otro gran año para el trío con tres nominaciones para los Grammy Latinos (Mejor Álbum de Música Urbana, Mejor Canción Urbana y Mejor Vídeo) y un Grammy ganado a la Mejor Canción Urbana en su colaboración con Calle 13 en la canción Pal norte. Una excelente preparación del terreno para el lanzamiento el próximo 3 de junio de Cosita buena, su nuevo álbum. Es el regreso de Orishas, una máquina musical perfectamente engrasada y alimentada por la tradición popular y la vanguardia urbana. On June 3rd 2008, Orishas release Cosita buena, their eagerly awaited fourth studio album. Composed, produced and arranged by the emblematic Cuban trio formed by Roldán González, Hiram Riverí “Ruzzo” and Yotuel Romero, the album was recorded in February of this year in Samurai Studio in Madrid; it was mixed by Tim Latham (Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Erykah Badu, De La Soul, Lou Reed…) in SynSound Recording Studios in Brussels and masterized by Tom Coyne (Beyoncé, Common, Kayne West, DJ Shadow, Britney Spears…) in Sterling Sound in New York - an international production for a group launching its music worldwide.
Cosita buena contains 12 songs (Cosita buena, Maní, Bruja, Camina, Guajira, Borrón, Mírame, Que quede claro, Machete, Isi, Público y Melodías) to which is added as a bonus track Hip Hop Conga, the official song of the 2008 Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival, whose lyrics refer constantly to certain symbols of the Canary capital, its inhabitants and the island.
With only three albums published, Orishas have become an emblem of the new twenty-first century music. Roldán, Ruzzo and Yotuel were born in Havana and their music and fame began to grow in Europe, where their revolutionary fusion of hip hop and Cuban sound are considered one of the great artistic contributions of recent years. With three albums released, Orishas have also earned through their efforts respect in the United States and Latin-America thanks to a powerful, imaginative and evocative music, which has seen songs turned into hymns, such as Represent, ¿Qué pasa? or Nací Orishas.
In May 1999, Orishas (an African word that means in Yoruba semi-gods) released their first album, A lo cubano, which became the first hip hop record in Spain to achieve Platinum status with over 100,000 copies sold. It also achieved Gold in France (over 100,000 copies sold) and in Switzerland. After more than 200 concerts worldwide, April 2002 saw the release of Emigrante, with deeper songs and a more international production. The album was presented on a tour covering 10 countries and, by 2003, Orishas success was assured. They were chosen by Time Magazine as one of the most important foreign groups together with U2, Radiohead and Pulp. They won that year’s Latin Grammy for the best Hip Hop/Rap album and were nominated for the Grammy awards in the Best Alternative Latin Rock category.
In February 2005, Orishas released El kilo, their third album, which won the Spanish Music Award for the Best Hip Hop album, reached Gold status in Switzerland, Portugal and Spain and was nominated for the Grammy and Latin Grammy awards, definitively planting Orishas’ music throughout the world. In 2007, Antidiótico was launched, a recompilation of their most popular and representative songs. It was another fantastic year for the trio with three nominations for the Latin Grammy Awards (Best Urban Music Album, Best Urban Song and best Video) and a Latin Grammy award for the best Urban Song for their collaboration with Calle 13 in the song Pal norte; an excellent preparation for the launch on June 3rd of Cosita buena, their new album. It is the return of Orishas, a perfectly tuned musical machine, fuelled by popular tradition in the urban forefront. They are songs that inaugurate a different century, born with a planetary vocation and that open new paths of hope. It is Orishas’ music.
