When classic Gothenburg Melodic Death Metal meets Australian attitude and aggression!

Orpheus is a Melodic Death Metal band from the northern regions of Melbourne, Australia.
The band began as a side project for Chris when he and good friend, Joao, decided to start a new project together in 2008. The act was to be in the vein of great melodic death metal artists such as At The Gates, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity, but with signature Australian aggression and flair.
Having recruited Chris’ brother Matthew on drums, after some months of planning, good friends Sasha and Milky (Adam) were auditioned on Keyboard and Bass, respectively. During the initial audition the band wrote their first song, and it instantly became aparent that the line up was perfect. Orpheus was now a reality.
In the first quarter of '08, four tracks were written and perfected. With MySpace support already established, the debut show looked set to draw in a large crowd.
That coming May, Orpheus played their very first concert to a large crowd at a local festival event - attracting a sizable audience. This was a big boost to the band’s confidence and motivation.
In September, Orpheus headlined a national battle of the bands and drew in the largest crowd of the night - eclipsing all other acts. A notable achievement for a band that had up until that point only performed very few shows.
Shortly after the battle, Chris secured an endorsement with MESA Boogie amplification. Not content to rest on his laurels, he then secured a Jackson Guitars endorsement to further enhance the band's profile.
By the middle of 2009, Orpheus had seen over a few dozen gigs, written a multitude of songs, consolidated substantial online support, played to crowds in the hundreds and received a great amount of reverence from other acts, organizers, promoters and MOST importantly: the outstanding fanbase.
On July 3rd, the band released their debut EP, “So It Begins...” to thousands of Orpheus fans across the globe. They are presently writing new material for a full-length release in the fall of 2010.
'This year we plan to play on more stages than ever before, to impress, invigorate and motivate more metal fans with each passing day. As the confident, dedicated people & musicians we are, we strive to take this band to the top and let nothing stop us.
This may be a dream sparked in many artists across the world, but we WILL follow it through to the end and make it our, and your, reality.'
