Matt Hutchison started life with music in his blood. Since the age of 4 he's had a musical instrument with him wherever he goes. Starting off on the piano and taking on the saxophone throughout his early teens, he had a wide range of influences including his older brother's vast cd collection.
Experimenting with sequencing and producing in college led to Matt writing and recording his own songs. But something was missing... having been afraid from picking a guitar up for over 18 years, Matt finally decided to take the plunge and buy one..
After a few years of practicing and writing, Matt produced his first album 'come into my world', where his songwriting is portrayed through electronic based grooves. Wanting a name for this project, he set out to find the most apt band name. Listening to the cd, over and over, it all became clear...
ortoPilot. The music taking control.
A few years passed while Matt locked himself away with his new toy / investment, a trusty Taylor 814ce. Getting massively into acoustic music, he found the music of John Mayer. Practicing his riffs based on various acoustic influences, Matt soon developed his own way to get his point across.
In June 2006, Matt discovered a site called YouTube. Not thinking anything of it, he uploaded a couple of acoustic cover videos just for fun.
Two turned into three and the YouTube addiction began...
Inspired by the amazing feedback, Matt continues to upload both covers and originals to the site with the aim to reach out to people through music.
With an urge to empower his original songs, Matt recently formed a band for ortoPilot which led to the recording the album 'High's and Goodbye's' in November 2007. With a few recent trips around the world to handle, the band are looking to be back in full swing by the start of 2009..
Matt is currently working a full time job in computer sales and the rest of time in his home studio, inviting in local bands who want a demo CD of their own.
As you may or may not be aware SoundARC hold a charity gig every year at Club 85 in Hitchin in aid of the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth, and this year we are going to try something a little different from previous years.
This year we are going to take over the club and host 37 acts in one weekend putting full bands upstairs and acoustic acts downstairs in an event that we are calling ARCfest!
It all starts on Friday 4th December at 7pm and then continues on through Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th from 12pm-11pm
As well as raising money for the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth, ARCfest will showcase all the different genres of bands that we at SoundARC have come across over the last 4 and a half years. Over this weekend a lot of the acts that you will see don’t get a chance to play a great local venue like Club 85, So as well as hearing new music you will see all manors of genres and styles from acoustic - Metal - Indie - Rock - Punk - Electro - Ska - Funk - Hip Hop/Rap - Alternative - Rhythm & Blues - Reggae - Grunge and loads more that I cant remember!
Metonia wish you well and hope all your ventures and adventures are good ones. Please feel free to come back to our space anytime and check out our tunes/vids, please leave comments and we might even see you at a gig sometime!... cheers.
