the ory no man too live @ c'est what feat. Kamila Martel>..>
ory no man is an express frieght-train of folk-rock. Anyone who catches him playing a live show feels the impact, and is bound to come back for more -- his high energy performance blends psychedelic harp-lines and intensely rhythmic acoustic guitar with soulful bluesy vocals. Driven like a deal with the devil, ory holds strong influences in some mighty predecessors, bringing a cryptic lyrical wit akin to that which has made Bob Dylan timeless, an urgency of emotion like a Jeff Buckley song, and a strong spattering of spirits like Woodie Guthrie and Richie Havens.
Based in Toronto, ON in the winter and Banff, AB in the summer, ory no man vocalizes,
plays guitar, blows and sucks on harmonica, and tenderly careses his beloved 1958
Wurlitzer electric piano. Performances vary from solo to being accompanied by Jason
Skiendziel on the upright bass, and mandolin; or with his band: Jason on Bass, Matt
Blackie on drums, and Sarah Burton on Wurlitzer. ory literally lives on the road and has
completed 5 successful cross-Canada tours and put on over 400 shows in a span of five
years. ory has enjoyed live radio performances on CIUT 89.5 (University of Toronto), and IndieCan Radio, and continues to have tracks from his live albums broadcast over the airwaves.
ory keeps a frantic and relentless schedule. He's completed numerous cross-Canada tours, played at some of the country's best venues, and has been showcased at numerous festivals from BC to QC and everywhere in between. Some notables include: the 2008 North by Northeast Festival (NXNE), Toronto's 2008 Winterfolk Festival, The 2008, and 2007 North Country Fair in northern Alberta, the 2008 Brandon Folk Festival, the 2008 ArtsWells Festival in Northern BC, Toronto's 2006 City Roots Citywide festival, playing a showcase for Canadian Music Week 2007, and randomly playing the after-party for the 2006 Western Canadian Music Awards.
The studio is in sight for ory no man. He’s received two FACTOR New Talent Demo Awards, and also a FACTOR Domestic Showcase Grant to play at NXNE 2008., and is working with award-winning producer John Switzer (Jane Siberry, The
Waltons and Nathan).
