ABOUT OSHEAGA
Osheaga is a unique and eclectic music and arts festival staged in the breath-taking environs of Montreal’s Parc Jean-Drapeau on Île Sainte-Hélène, an island of tranquility set in the middle of the bustle of one of North America’s most exciting cities. The festival was inaugurated in 2006 with the intention of offering a world-class European-style festival to Canadians and to showcase Montreal’s acclaimed local talent alongside some of the industry’s biggest names.
Now entering its fourth year, Osheaga has been a hit with music fans from Montreal and abroad staging sets by the likes of Jack Johnson, The Killers, Iggy & the Stooges, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, The Flaming Lips, Sonic Youth, Broken Social Scene, MGMT, Duffy, The Black Keys, k-os, Malajube, Patrick Watson, The Smashing Pumpkins, Arctic Monkeys, Gotan Project, Bloc Party and Feist, and many others in past editions.
2009 promises to be another incredible edition with Coldplay, Beastie Boys, The Roots, Rufus Wainwright, Jason Mraz, Arctic Monkeys, The Decemberists already confirmed and many more to come!
2009 also brings the inauguration of the "Osheaga in the City" series which will be unveiled in the time leading up to the festival. Osheaga in the City promises to get the festival off to an amazing start and will feature incredible artists in some of Montreal’s legendary club venues. Osheaga in the City will take place July 30-31.
In a bid to reduce the carbon footprint of Osheaga, the Montreal transit authority or “Société de transport de Montréal” will provide free public transit on their bus and subway system with the presentation of an Osheaga ticket for those travelling to and from Parc Jean-Drapeau during the festival.
