Osmo Tapio Räihälä is one of the leading Finnish composers of his generation. Appearing in repertoires since the early 1990’s, his music has been widely performed in Finland and in more than a dozen other countries, including the USA, UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Russia, Czech Republic, Poland, and the other Nordic countries, along with many others.
Räihälä’s output contains a lot of chamber music works as well as three concertos and other works for symphony orchestra. His style is approachable even for listeners who are less accustomed to modern contemporary music. In recent years, having originally started as a rock musician, Räihälä has used influences from rock and jazz in his music. There are some quotations hidden in his works, including themes from John Coltrane, Gentle Giant, Rush and Yes. However, these are woven into his own style and aren’t meant as manifestations.
Räihälä’s music is represented by Uusinta Publishing Company Ltd.
