  • Members

Boris Garcia is Jeff Otto on ukulele, bass, guitar, slide and vocals, Gene Smith on recorder, harmonica, guitar and vocals, Bob Stirner on lead guitar, bass and vocals, Stephe Ferraro on percussion and Bud Burroughs on mandolin, bouzouki, keyboards, and accordion. Multi instrumentalists all, a typical Boris Garcia gig consists of numerous instrument changeovers and song style shifts, bluegrass to jam, folk to pop, world beat to free form improvisation, all with a social, political message under the umbrella of traditional rootsy music.
  • Influences

I remember sitting on the floor in front of the TV to see and hear the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show. Of course they probably head the list of my music influences and joys. I also believe that I should have been in the Temptations. BUt I was born too late, white, and I can't dance for sh*t. I love Woody, Jimi, Sachmo, Smokey, and Sly, The Grateful Dead, NRPS and the list goes on. I have be one of the lucky ones who can say I have and still do listen to all of these guys on the radio during my lifetime. Oh then there's the gals, Carole King, Aretha Franklin, Anoushka Shankar, Ella, Billie, Janis, and Donna Jean. I love it all. Paolo Conte, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Gilberto Gill, Paul Simon, George Harrison, Animal Collective, Los Lobos, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, CSNY, George Clinton, LadySmith Black Mambazo, Radiohead, String Cheese Incident, Stanley Clark, Mozart, Bach, and a few choice Gregorian Chants are all on my ipod.
  • Sounds Like

As I said, I'm influenced by many. My songs also are all over the map. Someone once said "Nine FIne Wines" sounds like African street music. "Riverman" has Jethro Tull flavors, "Whiskey Canadian" sounds like a Russian workman's drinking song, and "The Oklahoma Songs" sounds like its from Hank Williams' songbook. Stay tuned for the next album.
