I have to admit that I don't listen to many new bands these days. I try to give my ears a rest when I'm not recording (which is about 4-7 hours/day). All that I listen to when I drive is talk-radio (90.1FM-KERA), and I don't have a TV, so I don't ever see MTV, VH1, etc. A few albums that I have found inspirational are: Camper Van Beethoven (Key Lime Pie), Spiritualized (Lazer Guided Melodies), Neil Young (Harvest Moon), The Swirlies (They Spent Their Wild Youthful Days), Pavement (miscellaneous tracks), U2 (Unforgettable Fire), The Cure (Disintegration), Bedhead (What Fun Life Was), The Ethels (Fieldtrip to Cakeland), Luna (Lunapark), The Velvet Underground (The Best of Velvet Underground), Smashing Pumkins (Siamese Dream), The Spin (Bring The King His Kaleidoscope), Built to Spill (Perfect From Now On), My Bloody Valentine (Loveless), and others.
Sounds Like
I have recorded a variety of music during this current project (www.anewsongeveryday.com). I created a FREE music page on my website that allows you to hear over 20 songs in their entirety. Each week of music (7 songs) is packaged as an album, and each album has a common theme, common sounds, and original artwork. The genre, instruments, style, etc has been slightly different each week, so I'll let you tell me what (or who) I sound like.
I am a 34 year old solo recording artist from Texas (USA), and I'm currently attempting to write and record a new song every day (since July 1, 2009). On the new website you can: view live video of each recording session, preview and purchase a new song every day, purchase a new album every week, and sign up for the Mailing List and receive a FREE song every week. I am searching for video artists that are willing to submit a video set to their favorite OTTO song (in exchange for promotion and links to your other projects). Please check the website for more information. I am open to comments and suggestions, and I would appreciate your support. Hope you enjoy the music! -OTTO (www.anewsongeveryday.com)
