Sounding Desire – an evening of music and philosophy
What can philosophy teach us about music and what can music contribute to our understanding of philosophy?
Music matters immensely to some people, perhaps all people. But why does it matter,
What do Krzysztof Kieslowski, English director Peter Greenaway, philosopher Simon Critchley, the stuffed corpse of Jeremy Bentham, Tantric Sex, Senegalese drumming, author Richard Dawkin and The Mexican Day of the Dead have in common . . .

How philosophers Die - A video by Critchley & Simmons.
It is a piece of ancient wisdom that to philosophize is to learn how to die. From Socrates onwards, the philosopher is the person who has no fear of death, but accepts their fate with calm and contentment. Yet, how do philosophers themselves die? This song will explain and the answers are unexpectedly and darkly funny? As some of you might recognize, this song is also an indirect homage to Brian Eno.

The Return to Goddess Worship.
The christian conception of feminine sexuality turns on the opposition between virgin (good) and whore (bad).
This is very different from pre-Christian goddess worship.
The Goddess, in her many guises and manifestations, was the most holy figure on earth for thousands of years and yet she has been so successfully eradicated that the majority of western women have simply no idea that she even existed, let alone had the religous awe and captivating power that she emanated.
The return to goddess worship could be a reaction to the objectification of women on the internet and pornography in general.

What is Sex? - A video by Critchley & Simmons.
In a world where sex has become completely cheapened and commodified by pornography and the fashion industry, how might we describe the genuine experience of sexual sensuality? This song attempts to describe the feeling of sex, its overwhelming tactile, olfactory and visual stimuli.
The effect, we hope, is rather pleasing.
