Everything from Javanese music such as gamelan, degung, kacapi-suling, zitheran, etc to the sound of birds, accidentally blended radio stations, and people saying the word hello simultaneously. Aren't there just too many influences to list these days, for everyone.
Our New Silence is a collective of various musicians from Athens Ga that are remixing/reinterpreting/absracting traditional Javanese music recordings made by Kai Riedl (see Javasounds or the band Macha). This project supported in part by I.C.E. at the University of Georgia aims at creating a new music from a palette of sounds not usually available to us. Drawn from multitracked recordings of some of Java's most renowned musicians playing gamelan, kacapi-suling, zitheran, degung, and more this music is an Athens style call out to musicians in Indonesia.
