   Our Technicolor Dream's Blurbs
About me:
2007 is a year of many anniversaries: 20 years after the Second Summer of Love that Acid House ushered in, 30 years after the release of the devastating 'Never Mind the Bollocks', 40 years after 'Sgt. Pepper's' and 50 years after the publication of Jack Kerouac's generation-defining novel 'On the Road'.

One event that gets far less publicity, but that in many ways was at the heart of everything that came both before and after it also sees its 40th anniversary this year. The 14-Hour Technicolor Dream took place on April the 29th 1967 and was the UK's first mass-participational all-night psychedelic freakout!

Organised on the hoof and in a matter of weeks, the event was held in the cavernous confines of Alexandra Palace, high on a hill in the suburbs of North London. The vision of John 'Hoppy Hopkins, underground lynch-pin extraordinaire and Miles, writer for freak press bible International Times, the night saw a glorious mingling of freaks, beats, mods, squares, proto-punks, pop stars and heads come together to dance, grok, trip, love and be.

Bands such as The Pretty Things, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, The Flies, Alexis Korner, Graham Bond, Tomorrow, The Pink Floyd and many more appeared amidst poetry readings, avant dance troupes and assorted happenings, including the infamous Yoko Ono-instigated 'Cut Piece', whereby a young model had a paper dress cut from her body piece by piece by folk wielding amplified scissors!

The event was the culmination of an underground that had started with the beats and would explode into the mainstream with the mass psych pop explosion of The Beatles, yet also sowed the seeds for punk's D-I-Y aesthetic and the drug-fuelled hedonism of Acid House. To commemorate and celebrate the anniversary, we're holding a one-off multi-media event called OUR TECHNICOLOR DREAM at the ICA on Saturday April the 21st 2007.

The day will essentially divide into four parts: the films, the talk, the gig and the after-show. Check out the blogs above for more detailed info on each segment, and also for ticket prices, etc.

Spread the word. Love, Hugh

This year, our fest becomes “International”, now that, bands are coming from Germany and Italy, visiting for the very first time our country, Greece!
The schedule of the 2-days festival goes like this:

Atomic Workers (with members from Italy, Netherlands and England) are headlining the 2nd day of the fest (Sun 6 July), supported by 3 other Greek bands, Warehouse (Patra), Flames Of Love (Tripolis) and Sleepwalkers (Tripolis).
Heavy doses of Psychedelic Space Rock along with sixties garage beats alternating with more indie even classic shades of pure rock .

The the biggest and best rock'n'roll party for New Year's Eve 2007 is at the Dome, 1 Dartmouth Park Road, Tufnell Park, London N19 - with three
great bands, and other fabulous entertainment, starting off with Lady Ane Angel and her Russian styled fire eating. Plus DJs Suave, Dirty PJ and
Scratchy. Start off your new year at the BEST party in town!

Urban Voodoo Machine - With their lurching sea shanties, debauched murder
ballads and whisky-soaked gypsy stomp, they’ve been compared to the likes Tom Waits and Nick Cave; others point out the last gang in town swagger of the Clash and the hellhound blues that John Lee Hooker first dragged out of the swamp.

Jim Jones Revue - Supercharged back-to-basics fifties rock’n’roll coming across like a collision between Little Richard and the MC5.

The Branded - Former guitarist with Thee Exciters and his Swedish-based raucous garage/R&B band.

Fire-Tusk Pain Proof Circus - Roll up! Roll up! Hang on to anything you can during this celebration of human folly and resilience. It's a high-octane phenomenon of real people, real risks and real skills. When the world seems grim, drab and bent on elf-destruction - it's time to send in the clowns!

Elephant Man Elvis - Ellyvis IS the Elephant Man Elvis. He is not an animal: he is the King. He is the stuff of small children's nightmares but his rendition of Elvis songs accompanied by Elephant Man slurps is pure genius.

Norma Guntz & her Tom Jones Tumour - Norma Guntz is the world's biggest Tom Jones fan with a heart-rending story of how she beat cancer the day she noticed that, in a certain light, her watermelon-sized tumour resembled the face of Tom Jones!

And more!

From 9pm till 6am upstairs in The Dome, entrance on Dartmouth Park Road, Tufnell Park N19.

The Boston Music Room will also be open, entry via the stairs from the Dome.
