Computer art? Technology is awesome but it has its limitations. It
makes our lives easier and faster but it cannot touch the heart and
soul. My point is simple...tweak a recognizable icon and bend its
purpose. Those who see my work can draw their own conclusions.
Art is the language of the new revolution.
It penetrates culture in the most significant ways.
Poetry, sculpture, music, drama, paintings
and other expressions are the tools of transformation.
Art floats like incense
between the cracks of the human spirit
It touches the wounded and broken

Outcast Press is dedicated to those who dwell in the shadows. You may be pierced and tattooed or wear a suit and tie. It doesn't matter. Pain knows no boundaries. Anyone can describe the chaos of modern life. We want to go beyond that and offer solutions for those who rage, fear, hide, cut, weep, quit, seek, question, use, run or close up inside.
Some of you already feel dead even though your heart still beats. You have been ground down, broken, shamed, neglected and wounded by people or circumstance. It feels as if there are no safe places to hide from the things that chase you down. Our goal is to become a haven even if the setting is cyberspace. Our offering to you is words, pictures, art, prayers and a reflection of truth and light.
The Christians are trying to win America So it will become a Christian nation A nation with Christian morals But the Christians Are doing very little To win the souls in America
I was reading a back issue of Sojourners (September-October, 2005) and found a really cool poem. I googled it. Here it is for you.

Come As You Are
Drive north down Highway 301, past the school where, weekdays, deaf children run wild on the playground. Keep going until you see the sign, "Shake Man," then turn left into Camper's Lodge and swing on around past the turquoise pool in front of the Laundromat and park your car. Get out and go inside--any wayfaring stranger is welcome here of a Sunday morning, rain or shine. Take a seat in one of the six pews painted white as the washers and dryers lined up in
the back of the room. If it's winter when you arrive, I'd advise you to bundle up in layers, and don't forget your thick socks, gloves, and lug-sole boots. The cold north wind creeps through these cinderblock walls like pneumonia into lungs. Soon you'll meet the "Preacher Lady" and members of her flock, the Snake Man included, and sister Kim, newlywed, along with her husband Blinky. Don't worry if you've been drinking, just leave your bottle outside for the time being. You
never know, this could be your lucky day. If the weather is warm, short sleeves are fine. No need to hide the craters on your arms. To these folks, needle marks are common as acne on a teen, or tractors on a farm. You won't hear any Trinity chimes or sing the usual hymns, recite the Apostle's Creed, drop a check in the offering. Just come as you are. You have nothing to fear, nothing to dread There is no religion here, but for the laying on of hands and the resurrection of the dead.

Word on the Street: Performing the Scriptures in an Urban Context
I just checked out the book, Word on the Street: Performing the Scriptures in an Urban Context by Stanley P. Saunders and Charles L. Campbell. They are two seminary professors who work with homeless people through The Open Door Community in Atlanta, GA. This book consists of essays, sermons, and true stories. On page 7, they quote Nicholas Lash who wrote an essay, "Performing the Scriptures". Lash states that the interpretation of Scripture requires "performance" like a Shakespearan troup performing a play or a group of musicians performing a piece by Beethoven. I love the analogy that Lash paints because I am a writer. Scripture is not to be just read and memorized. It is to be applied. The Bible is a two-edged sword. I believe one edge is the knowledge and the other edge is the application. I strive to keep my sword sharp on both edges. The Open Door Community performs the Scripture to the homeless in Atlanta. They do this through feeding the homeless, worshipping with the homeless, having the Eucharist with the homeless, and advocating for them in their city.
Another thing that I am enjoying about this book is the illustrations of Christina Bray from her series "Street Prayers/Spiritual Journeys". She does etchings and woodcarvings. Some of the titles are "A Dream about a Shelter", "Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit", and "Street Prayer".
I am looking forward to reading more of this book.
