"Christians in the 21st Century with dreamy soulful lead from David McMahon. Incredible to think Live and Unsigned was their first gigs. How good will they be in 12 months?" - Chris Grayston, Future Music
"An ambitious four-piece who deliver a strange but wholesome confection pitched midway between Interpol and Elton John. I expect Outcry to get a good deal bigger in the future." - OxfordBands.com
"For an unsigned, relatively young band, Outcry are punching out music of a surprisingly professional standard. They're definitely ones to watch for the future!" - FM107.9/JackFM
Outcry was an accident, a group of self taught musicians coming together through the most tenuous of connections. It all started with a chance meeting between David McMahon and Mark Roberts and was brought about when David found himself temporarily homeless. He stayed with a friend, which was also where Mark lived, which happened to be a caravan!
Mark, a pianist, soon realised that Dave’s keen attitude to singing along with his unique and powerful voice could form part of a great sound. It started off with a bit of fun between the two but they soon started to write their own material, and thus Outcry was born.
However, a pianist and a singer writing songs together was all well and good but it wasn’t a band. Outcry needed to expand. Dave suggested a friend of his, Jose, a drummer. Jose was indeed what they were looking for and the band had grown to three members.
The band continued playing and writing for a time but soon realised that something else was missing before Outcry would be truly complete, an out-and-out guitarist. This would free up Dave, a competent guitarist himself, to concentrate on delivering his unique voice and perfecting his front man image. They soon found Joe, someone already known by the band, and a guitarist with the experience to match his talent from being in several bands previously. Outcry had finally found its missing member, and now it was complete. Time to take the music to the next stage…
Outcry entered a competition called “Live and Unsigned”. They entered with no real expectations of getting through the first round, hoping that the experience would serve them well in later endeavours. Against all odds however they emerged all the way through to the National Final, live in London. Outcry competed against 12 bands from the thousands that entered in the Grand Final and came 4th! Not bad for their first ever competition and live performances!
More recently, Jamie Oliver selected Outcry in his personal Top 24, part of an unsigned bands competition he was running.
Outcry’s public image is sure to grow exponentially paving the way for, well, who knows…
