OUT OF THE BOX is a peformance series dedicated to providing a safe, supportive environment in which folks of all backgrounds and particularities can share their expressions with a receptive and considerate audience. OOTB is sponsored by The Pride Center of NJ.

The series accomodates performance/expressions in all mediums including (but not limited to): music, song, dance, mime, poetry, stand-up comedy and drama.
OUT OF THE BOX welcomes and makes space for all people, regardless of how they self-identify. This includes folks who identify as lesbian, gay, trans, bi, asexual, intersexed, straight, queer, choose not to identify and/or use any other identifiers.
The series is also dedicated to providing a space for professional, queer-positive performers to showcase their work.
OUT OF THE BOX is volunteer-run and is hosted by a not-for-profit organizations - all proceeds go to supporting featured artists and the programs at the Pride Center of New Jersey.
Here's the skinny:
It's held on the
THIRD FRIDAY of EVERY MONTH
from 8:00 to about 10:30 pm

directions from New Brunswick: take Route 27/Raritan Avenue *past* 2nd Avenue. Look for a Municipal Parking Lot on your right. Turn right into the parking lot. Park anywhere. The entrance to the Cave is along the side Parking Lot. Look for a Purple Balloon.
Admission: $5 (suggested donation) / $3 for students

...how this works...
Doors open around 7:45 pm. Folks come on by and sign up on the list as they arrive. Every effort is made to make sure everyone who signs up will be given time up on the mic to share. Priority is given to those who get there earlier. Count on having around 6 minutes if there are lots of folks (15 or more), and up to 8 if there aren't. If you have a piece that is more than 6 minutes, check in with either Pandora or Stephen and we'll figure something out!
