Ghosts" is an experience for the heart and soul.
The opening track "The Extreme" is a haunting march and so very easy to get lost in. The backing vocals are wonderful and subtle as the compliment of the saxophone is.
"Those Eyes" is Brian taking the listener by the hand through his promised land as gently as Cohen took his audience through his debut album.
"Can't Sleep Tonight" is a dream worth staying awake for. The piano instrumental midway through the piece is superb. There's a Robbie Robertson feel to this.
"Eden" could be the product of a meeting between Enya and Pink Floyd on some magical world... until you hear the melancholy in the lyric. Suddenly the landscape is as sad as it is beautiful.
The long intro into "The Drifting" allows the listener space and room to drift into the canvas of endless questions and confusion. There is light in the darkness, however underestimated, "...if you're falling off the cliff, you may as well try to fly..."
"Play To Win" is like a conversational dance of the senses. Artistic stage presentation. If one look
"Still Miss You" is not just a great dialogue between two lovers, it's graciously accompanied by a brilliant lead guitar and wonderful Irish-like strings. The present and past are entwined to form a timeless piece.
"Darkness" paints its own pictures. It's dark, it's gambling with life itself. It's the question to an answer. It's familiar and vague. It's Leonard Cohen. It's awesome.
"Dreamtime" is like a recital from a private memoir. The spoken words are delivered with such feeling, they expose the vulnerability of us all.
"True Love" is inspiring and makes me want to grab a pen and paper and write my own answers to love. The French accordeon twangs are as refreshing as they are romantic.
Bittersweet" - saving the best for last. The breeze of sensuality blows like a prayer whispered in a hollow, sacred space.
"...was it good...?" Brian and Out Of The Tree. Hell, yeah, it's magnificent. I enjoy every leaf on this tree, even though (and especially because) they are scattered beyond the branch itself!
