About me: Outspoken: books, cafe, & community voices was a small independent business in West Asheville. Outspoken was Asheville's "straight friendly, queer bookstore" and a place where progressive folks of all sorts were welcome to gather, study, converse, relax, and raise their voices in song, spoken word, protest, and laughter.
We closed on February 29, 2008 for financial reasons. And though we no longer have a brick and mortar location, we are still part of the Asheville community, especially the LGBTQ community.
Lin will continue to use this myspace page to keep you up to date on events, happenings, and other interesting stuff. We are planning to have another Down and Dirty this summer, so check back for more information about that.
We will miss seeing you every day but will continue to be there for you at least in cyber space.
Any musicians out there, queer ones in particular, I will be happy to promote your shows through this page and will try to help you find a venue in the Asheville area, WNC, east Tennessee, and/or the Upstate.
As always, we challenge you to remain Well Read, Well Fed, and Well Said wherever you are and wherever you go!
To get some cool merchandise with the hot and colorful Outspoken logo, visit www.cafepress.com/outspokenavl.
CA Conrad was one of our favorite performers at Outspoken. And though we will never have the opprtunity for him to read at that venue again, we can certainly give him so publicity. Conrad has a new book coming out and Porscha posted about it on Out{loud}, OIA's blog. You can read all about it if you follow the link.
Who I'd like to meet: We want to meet people who want to raise their voices in protest, poetry, and song. We also want to meet people who are happy to lose themselves in a novel, collection of poetry, cookbook, or the latest expose about Wal-Mart or the radical right. We want to meet people who are writing those books. We want to meet people who are not afraid to admit that they enjoy reading children's books. We want to meet people who want to create a better community in West Asheville, all of Asheville, the Carolinas, and beyond.

I am in Round Two of The TRCoA Unsigned Artist Competition. Help me get to Round Three by clicking my face and voting for me!
If I’m in the top 4 I get to play a showcase for record executives and could win 100 free hours in the studio.
If I were selected, it would really help me rock some faces off, please take a second and vote.
Thanks!
