Morrison Brothers Band Jim Morrison- fiddle, guitar; Will Morrison- percussion; Owen Morrison, acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin. My first band with my dad and brother. In addition to playing for contras, we have played for many weddings and historical events. We are often called on to play early American music for conventions and events related to the colonial or civil war periods. We have a new CD "21st Century Hoedown" released Dec. 2007 as well as "Busking at Twilight," 2002. Check out our website and our myspace page.
House Red Jonathan Thielen- fiddle; Shawn Brenneman- piano; Owen Morrison, guitar, mandolin, feet. I joined this contra band in 2002 when I moved to Greensboro to go to school at Guilford college. Our CD "Uncorked" came out in October, 2006.
Night Watch Naomi Morse- fiddle; Elvie Miller, piano, accordion; Owen Morrison- guitar, mandolin, feet. Formerly known as Mountain Road, Night Watch is a top of the line dance band. We released our debut CD "Splendid Isolation" in November '08. Visit our website and our myspace page for samples, a schedule and more info.
The Figments Ethan Hazzard-Watkins- fiddle; Anna Patton- clarinet; Owen Morrison- guitar, feet. Another high energy dance band with great musicians. We've played for dance weekends from California to Idaho to West Virginia. Go to Ethan's website for a schedule and more info about Anna and Ethan.
Elixir A contra dance band with a full horn section opens up a bunch of new possibilities. The three of us from The Figments combine with Jesse Hazzard-Watkins on trumpet and Nils Fredland on trombone. Elixir released their amazing new CD "Super Tonic" in August '08. Go to elixirmusic.com to order or for more info.
I also play solo and in other combinations at times. I have played solo classical and jazz guitar for numerous weddings and banquets. I am frequently a musician at dance weeks such as Pinewoods and Christmas Country Dance School in Berea, KY. Check my schedule to find out where I'll be this year.

I grew up in Charlottesville, VA surrounded by great musicians and it wasn't long before I wanted to join in the fun. I'm now a full-time guitarist and I'm frequently on the road playing for dances, concerts, parties and weddings. I play flatpick guitar and mandolin for contra dances all over the country with several bands including Airdance, Night Watch, The Figments, Elixir, Morrison Brothers Band and House Red. I am also at home in other styles of music such as swing, bluegrass, blues and classical. I graduated from Guilford College in 2006 with a degree in music/classical guitar performance.

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
hey owen! i am so happy you are in our neck of the woods. planning on being there on tuesday. if you are in town and have some time, let's get lunch, beer, etc.!
Hi owen! I had a dream at some point in the past couple of months, and you were in charge of admission for some kind of strange sex party that was taking place in a gymnasium. ha. That's kind of like playing bluegrass, right? or have you changed careers? peace to you! jon
Hey Owen, I've danced to the Morrisons, hope we get to sit down and pick some one day. Thanks for 'friending' us! I think some of your friends would enjoy demos we have on our MySpace page. They're hot and innovative, combining Applachian, Celtic, and Swing on fiddle, mando, and even trumpet. I know the'yll want to request an add so we can let 'em know when our CD comes out....soon! Also, consider coming to Festivall in Charleston, WV June 20-24 for music, dancing, theater, etc. Drop by, y'all!
Hello there to Owen!! I hope i find you awesome! Sounds like your really doing some cool things. I'm stuck in a rut at the moment. Having trouble staying focused on anything. Have made some music though, which i'm kinda proud of. Patrick and I joined forces on "Treeverb" and he put it through his computer with some groovy effects and stuff! I like that one. all the best! Nick
Hey Owen,
If there were more guitars players out there like you I'd have my own band ready to go!! Dean keeps bugging me about having a band. Know anybody?
I look forward to dancing to your music again in April.
