///// //// ///// / // / / // / CD RELEASE - "O Mores!" ....................................................................................................................
We've just finished a longish EP of songs, which we recorded in Sebastian's closet at lab.synthese in Montreal. We are releasing the EP under the title "O Mores!". You can learn more about it - and even have Sebastian sell and mail you a copy - if you email info@arbutusrecords.com - We are proud of the sounds in a certain sense. We anticipate our next release will be composed with a much more plain, raw, and modest aesthetic in mind, a conscious and timely rejection of the self-indulgent canorous magniloquence that defines "O Mores!". But the tracks here are very effective if only in terms of their ability to overwhelm the listener with gross scads of melodic information. It can be really fun and enjoyable, although at the same time it strongly urges that one stop what she is doing and do some concentrated imaginative leg-work on the speaker-end of the wire, as it were. This EP pacifies, it nauseates, it haunts (someone said to Sebastian), it tells stories. More or less all at the same time, but certainly within the total length of the EP. We also owe a lot to the giggles hugs and smiles involved in the making of this EP. There are a lot of really silly jokes tucked into the sheets of this music, which we hope will at least age well. Perhaps one of the best reasons to buy the record is for the heartbreakingly beautiful packaging that the EP is encased in. Other groups are using the goodie-bag approach to make their money, while they make other things free. Sure. Anyway, it was really an accident in our case that the visual presentation turned out to be so flattering. Ezra (our friend) erected this nest of paper mache and empyrean gossamer which has since completely changed the way we listen to our own music.
Just a reminder to listen to OXEN TALK on THIS GREAT WHITE NORTH. It's an ALL CANADIAN music show FRIDAYS 4:30-6pm CST on 91.7 KOOP FM in Austin, Texas. You can listen online at www.KOOP.org.
