A very big Thank You to everyone who has been in Oxjam and have helped from donating time as an event organiser, volunteer helper or by donating raffle prizes, venues and more.
What is it for?
£9000 is a lot of money and very important for Oxfams vital work. The money from Oxjam will go towards the projects which really need the cash at the moment.
It has been a great achievement to raise so much money at a time of recession and is even more important when the world economies are struggling. Unfortunately money and resources available to the charity has retracted in recent months due to people not being able to donate as much, job cuts and also the fact that the unfavourable exchange rate of the GBP is meaning we need to raise more. So it is great news that through fun and exciting music events we have been able to help the charity greatly.
To put it in context:
£9000 could potentially fund the installation and train locals to maintain 3 fresh water pumps. Esh pump provides fresh water for about 300 people. This is an essential lifesaving initiative as the average life expectancy for people in areas with poor water sanitation is about 34 years old and a high proportion of children will not see their fifth birthday. As we take for granted the fresh water, pumped straight to our kitchen sinks, showers, baths and hose pipes it is humbling to realise things would have been so much more difficult had we been born somewhere else.
Oxjam will be back....
Date for your diary: 25th October 2009
Oxjam will be back later this year with a brand new format to hopefully raise even more money for Oxfam GB.
This time Oxjam will be in your area with a big flag ship event across many venues in one weekend. A wristband will ensure entry to all venues for this event. The date scheduled is 25 th October 2009. Oxjam would also like people like you to organise your own small fundraisers around this time to 'tag' your event onto this nationwide festival!
Recruitment for the new regional team is well under way and details and plans will need to start asap.
To organise, help, play, donate or get involved in any other way make sure you email centralengland@oxjam.org and sign up on www.oxjam.org asap to let us know how you would like to get involved and let us know your plans. Make sure you tell us who, what, when, where!
The current team will be handing over the reigns to the very capeable new team shortly so please bear with them and let them know if/how you hve been involved in Oxjam so far.
Thank You
