About me:
Welcome to the Oxjam regional MySpace for Guildford and the surrounding area.
Oxjam is Oxfam's most ambitious music event ever. We are asking musicians, promoters - in fact, everyone - to get together in October to make music, raise money and help end poverty.
From classical to club night, folk, funk and punk - it all adds up to one huge, UK-wide, Oxjam festival - raising hundreds of thousands of pounds to fight poverty. Whether you sing, scratch or strum, you’ll be joining some of the biggest names in music in the Oxjam line-up.
You don’t need a big venue - the beauty of Oxjam is that hundreds of small events make one huge party. And you make it happen.
What will you do?
And now... Get Seen, Get Heard with MTV!
Oxjam and MTV are working together to give Oxjam bands a chance to appear on MTV! Don't miss the opportunity to get national exposure on world's biggest music tv channel. This offer is only open to bands/artists either playing or organising an Oxjam event, so if you haven't got involved already, do something about it and help us raise money for Oxjam. Click the flyer for more info..

Who I'd like to meet:
Could you put on music events for Oxjam? Want to join our team?
Oxfam is looking for enthusiastic, talented and outgoing music-lovers at all levels to become volunteer Music Event Organisers. Don't worry if you haven't put on an event before, the Oxjam team will support you all the way with the advice, training, materials you need to make this year a record achievement. Last year Oxjam raised a huge £500,000 with over a thousand events all over the country, and with your help, this year will be bigger and better than ever.
We'd love all volunteers to raise £750 for Oxfam by setting up events in their area, but you won't get told off if you don't, it's purely a goal to aim for, and all the money you raise will make a huge impact to those living in poverty.
In return, you'll get training in events organisation, one-to-one support, materials, and a reference from Oxfam. You'll gain valuable experience, meet new people, get involved with your local music scene and have a great time while helping to raise loads of money and learning more about Oxfam's work to end poverty. We've got 1000 places, each offering all the training and support you need, but 1,000 is our limit, so get your application forms in now because it's first come first served!
Alternatively, if you are a venue/promoter/artist(s) etc., and feel you have the experience to put on an event already, or have and event set up that you would like to use to donate some money, you can register your events on the Oxjam website for national promotion or contact us via your regional MySpace for a helping hand in doing something really worthwhile.
If you've got what it takes to organise Oxjam events, whether your passion is for classical music or club nights; folk, funk or punk, we'd love to hear from you.
As a massive thank you to all our friends and fans, we are giving away the b-side to our upcoming single "Dark is the New Light" which is being released 10th November on Doombox Recordings.

Just to let you know that the new CQB CD - HOPE SO - is finally finished and during the month of October it's being sold on a not-for-profit basis for only £3 (worldwide), with at least £1 of each sale going to OXFAM. You can order it now & it will be sent out in October to coincide with OXJAM.
Please give it a look and listen on the Crazy Quilt Bouquet page where there are also a couple of tracks from the CD.
If you're feeling very generous, supportive, loving, encouraging, facilitating and amenable you could even pass this information on. It really would be appreciated. I will gladly reciprocate with any information that you wish to share.
And, of course, if you're feeling suitably benevolent, moved, solvent, click-happy, adventurous, or just willing to give it a go – you could always treat yourself!
There's also a slightly desperate, somewhat nerdy and unnecessarily needy press release for you to peruse on the blog...
We need as many cities as possible to get onboard and run a Buskathon this year. It's simple to setup and free to run, but the best thing is that anyone can signup to play! We'll be providing 200 Oxjam event organisers with 250 quid each towards the cost of putting on their event, meaning that you'll be able to raise even more to help fight poverty around the world. Even better, the artists who perform at the 200 XFM Oxjam shows will also have the chance to be featured on XFM.
How to apply:
All you have to do is let us know all about the event you're planning here. You can apply until 18 August, at which point we'll get together with XFM and pick out 200 fantastic events that we can help to make even better!
v from whom the funding for this partnership comes, only operate within England, so the XFM offer is open to events taking place in England. If you're from Scotland, Wales or Ireland, though, there are still plenty of reasons to get involved in Oxjam, not least the chance to get the artists who play your event onto MTV - check it out at MTV website..
There are the leaders and the followers.
Give us a shout if you dig it.
