About me: Originally from Sydney (NSW, Australia) but was on the Gold Coast (QLD, Australia) for high school and university. I sweated out an InfTech degree (Software Engineering, E-commerce) and joined a start up company as CTO. Was in the right place at the right time I guess, as this was a fantastic kick start to my professional life. From the start I was put in a management position. This position took me all over the world (probably spent 2 years travelling in total) and I got to work with some very smart people including at Microsoft. The main product that I developed personally won the award for best communications application (asia pacific) which was a very big achievement.
But, my heart was in poker. The InfTech grind was killing me so I decided to leave and focus on playing poker instead. I did ok, and was able to make a modest living from playing. Being the networker that I am, I met a lot of poker industry people along the way and was offered various poker consultancy positions around the place. Spent some time in Gibraltar, and various parts of Europe with different poker and media companies.
My poker playing journey has been a very enjoyable one. Have met some great people and made some lifetime friends. I have appeared on two TV shows (and cameod in a couple of others) and cashed in the World Series of Poker main event this year (2006). I devote all my time to the business side of the industry now, but may pop my head out for big events.
For almost a year I have been working for PokerNews looking after the poker side of the business. We have a heap of web sites around the world and about 150 staff now. Am living in a nice place in Melbourne with the MCG a 10min walk across the park. Out of all the many cities I have visited and lived, Melbourne is my favourite of them all.
Happy New Year Gareth! Yeah I know I know, I'm a little behind the pack when it comes to ringing in the New year- but hey- it keeps it fresh in people's minds I guess? Best wishes for 2008!!!
Hey hey! Just wanted to add something... I'm off to bed. Charlotte is sleeping so I don't know why I'm up doing this stuff. 11 weeks old so I take sleep whenever I can... Or I should be anyway. x
Thanks for the add and good luck with the poker game. Come play with me at Mansion! There is a link in my profile for a 100% up to $1000 bonus. $100,000 Guaranteed Tourney Going on Right Now!
