Paatos was formed in August 2000. Huxflux Nettermalm,
Stefan Dimle, Johan Wallén and former guitarist Reine Fiske
were engaged to play a concert with folk-rock singer Turid.
This collaboration was the starting-point for what was then
to become Paatos. The band plaeyd a few gigs as an instrumental
act but was soon joined by Petronella Nettermalm on
vocals and additional cello.
The band's first single, Perception, was recorded in spring
2001 and was soon followed by their debut full length
album Timeloss which was released in 2002 on the swedish
label Stockholm Records.
Shortly after the debut release Reine Fiske left the band
and was replaced by guitarist Peter Nylander. Peter and
Huxflux had collaborated for some time in the late saxophonist
Dave Wilczewski's band where a deep musical connection grew
between them.
While on tour in Germany in summer 2003 Paatos met with
Thomas Waber at Insideout Music to discuss Paatos
signing on with the label which they all agreed upon. The band's second album, Kallocain, was released on Insideout in 2004 and features a collaboration with Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree who mixed the album at Primal Studios in Stockholm. The album was recorde in Paatos' studio, The Green Genie.
After some touring around Europe, Paatos starts recording
their third album, Silence of Another Kind, which was subsequently
released in Spring 2006. It's worth mentioning
the artwork on the album which featured artist Hans Arnold,
famous in part for doing album artwork for ABBA. Silence of
Another Kind was recorded in the Green Genie and mixed by Janne Hansson at Atlantis Studio in Stockholm.
While on tour around Europe in autumn 2006, Paatos records
a live album, Sensors. The album comprises music recorded
from three of the venues on that tour; Paris, Zoetermeer,
and Karlsruhe. The album was released on the Mellotronen label in 2007 exclusively on vinyl and shortly after on CD in Japan and the rest of the planet.
After some turmoil and a long break Stefan Dimle and Johan Wallén leave the band in 2008. Petronella, Peter, and Huxflux then embark on creating the band's fifth album. Bassist Ulf "Rockis" Ivarsson lays down bass tracks and joins the band. Paatos is now a quartet.
The fifth album is in the works and a release date is still to be set.
