| About PACEM |
|
the pacific academy of ecclesiastical music (PACEM) offers diverse opportunities for church music and musicians. PACEM is an ecumenical center where organists, choral and orchestral directors, choirs, instrumentalists, vocal soloists, clergy, congregations and composers can learn and share a medium that knows no barriers and speaks to every soul – church music. the academy is open to music lovers, musicians and students of every discipline, amateur and professional alike, including children, youth and adults of all faith groups, with students and workshop participants performing for the public. functioning as a resource for the community at large, PACEM’s educational programs are directed at individuals and at groups, both small and large. Necessary financial support may be provided to students, both through grants or subsidies.
PACEM's newest project is a nightly service, called compline.
as the end of the working day, compline provides worshippers the environment
needed to clear the mind of distraction and desire, thereby entering a
meditative space that brings more intimate communion with God, deepening
faith and strengthening resolve.
and so, the meditation of compline, the final hour before the great silence
of benedictine rule, serves not as an opportunity to raise spiritual
questions, rather, to allow the turbulent and extraneous events of daily
life to fall away, granting one the peace to contemplate the fullness of God
in loving wisdom and compassion.
this program is made possible through a worship renewal grant from the
calvin institute of christian worship, grand rapids, michigan, with
funds provided by lilly endowment inc.
