Our not too long story began in the spring of 2008...
...when two bands from Miskolc decided to go on a joint tour around Hungary. While Paddy and Seamus played dirty rock of the seventies, the band of Joey and Vince played lollipop glam-punk. They had known each other for a long time, but in this case only the common interest was the thing that brought them together. So they rented a minivan together, and got to know each other better and better while wearing the road and having lots of drinks. It turned out very quickly that the four guys have a lot in common, also that none of their bands played the music they really liked. They were all Sex Pistols fans, loved Irish pub music and the entire Celtic culture. Moreover, their senses of taste were also similar from movies or literature point of view. And they certainly all had a good relationship with Mr. Jameson! The tour ended quickly, but the story went on...
At home they continued what they started . They mixed regularly, sometimes to drink, sometimes to jam in Paddy’s home studio, of course in Mr. Jameson’s company. During the summer they had some joint concerts in their home town, and they gladly went to a place called Shannon Pub.
After a concert they got into a fight after which they were called “rats” by their adversaries.
They all survived, but after being called “rats” and being considered as a “gang”, something was born in Paddy’s mind. And that thing was: why couldn’t they become a real team? To play the kind of music they really liked, and to carry on fighting together. The day after he called Vince to ask him about the idea. We do know the answer, otherwise you wouldn’t read this article. Joey and Seamus joining them was out of question.
The first song was a Paddy composition, Hurry Home for which he used a violin sampler programme to show the others. There was no way back, they immediately felt that it was just what they needed. So they started to look for a fiddle player. In the meantime Vince showed the song to one of his friends that was a DJ of the club in the Campus of University of Miskolc, he played the song at parties. Hurry Home became much more successful that was expected, since then it can be heard, at the audience’s desire. The same thing happened in many other campus clubs in the country.
They also got to know the works of Dropkick Murphys on YouTube, and it became obvious that they needed also a banjo player and an accordion player, to make the production complete. They kept on writing songs and looking for musicians, they advertised even! Noone applied. Autumn came along. Still noone. Then in mid-October they got a phone number. This phone number was a doublebass players that was a member of the Miskolc Symphony Orchestra, and who actually learned how to play the accordion, in his spare time. When they first met, Sonny recorded all the songs within a couple of hours, and he liked them very much, so he undertook to get also a violin player. He called one of his friends that played on the viola at the Miskolc Symphony Orchestra to come to the studio and to listen to the songs. When they met next time, they recorded all the fiddle tracks too, and since Sam – this is the name of the fiddle player – also fell in love with the music, he bought a bagpipe as well to learn how to play on it.
So the band was finally formed in November 2008 and they started to rehearse live. They fixed the entire programme in two weeks. They played the first gigs in December 2008, which were kickin’ success. Since then they got several invitations from different organisers. They play besides their own compositions, a classic from Sex Pistols the Friggin in The Riggin and a lot of celtic and pub songs like Whiskey in The Jar, Bugger Off, Irish Rover,Drunken Sailor, Auld Lang Syne, Loch Lomond, Bonnie, Wild Rover, Black Velvet Band, and the Minority of Green Day can also be heard at the gigs. And at the end, as a joke, the punk version of Cotton Eye Joe from Rednex. Banjo player is still wanted! Until then, Paddy’s still planning to buy a banjo- which would be very unfortunate for everyone !
