  • Bio

Dominance came into being soon after the breakup of the mid-eighties Thrash Metal band from Philadelphia known as Anvil Bitch. The rhythm section of Dave Carr on bass and Chuck Stadulis on drums, as well as songwriter/guitarist John Plumley, formed the core of both bands. In need of a vocalist, the band chose Chuck Miles from Ephrata, PA. The second guitar spot was filled by John Hebert, who like Chuck, Dave and John, was also from northeast Philadelphia..... Soon after forming in the Fall of 1988, Dominance entered the Warehouse Studio in Philadelphia to record their first demo. The thrash metal genre had been around for a while, and this demo was the representation of the energy and passion that all five members felt for this music. The songwriting duties were divided between the two Johns, with some help from Dave. With tracks like "Dreams of Supremacy" and "Explicit Termination", the band showed that they could create a classic and aggressive vibe..... The first opportunities to play live came on the last days 1988 and the first day of 1989. Dominance was booked on a weeknight bill at the Trocadero in Philly. The bill was full of college alternative bands, so it was a place that the band could play for a non-metal crowd as an anonymous warm up. While the weeknight crowd was shocked and overwhelmed, the crowd that greeted them on January 1, 1989 at the legendary Empire Rock Club in Philadelphia was primed for intense Metal Booking the first real show at a sold out Empire Rock Club, billed as Anvil Bitch, was a way to ensure that the debut of Dominance would be known. When the show started, a banner was revealed across the back of the stage that was to become the cover of the bands first demo. In addition, the first 100 people to enter the club were given the demo cassette even hearing the band play. This helped create a following and a bond with the fans. Many shows followed, from New Jersey with bands like Faith or Fear, and Bio Hazard to Delaware with Solitude at the old Union Station, up to New York with Morbid Angel. Back in Philly, there was Overkill/Dominance at the Troc. Things were happening..... In 1989, Dominance returned to the Warehouse Studio in Philadelphia to record the second Demo, “Look Where We Worship”. This demo was significant for its use of samples to enhance the presentation of the songs. Guitarist John Hebert and manager Shawn Tierney teamed up to add movie dialogue (Planet Of The Apes) and pieces of popular music from the past to give the songs a cinematic quality that was very effective. The song “Resurrected” from this demo was featured on the famous "Metal Massacre" series on Metal Blade Records, appearing on Metal Massacre XI..... In 1990, Dominance opened for Slayer at the Trocadero when they came to Philly. This was a true highlight of the bands existence. In the early nineties, as heavy metal was being pushed underground, John Hebert left the band. In search of a new guitarist, the band turned to a friend of singer Chuck Miles named Lance Walter, who like Chuck, was from central PA, hailing from York, PA. The addition of Lance helped improve the bands ability to record its own music, as he is the proprietor of Rhawn Street Studio in Philadelphia. A talented guitarist, he is a gifted engineer and producer as well. Dominance carried on in this form into the mid-nineties, sometimes joined by Gary Capriotti (former Anvil Bitch vocalist) filling in for Chuck Miles..... Today the band is enjoying a re-issue of their first two demos, released by Divebomb Records, a division of Tribunal Records dedicated to reissuing quality music from the past. This label is headed by Matt Rudzinski, who became a fan of the band while going to their shows at the Union Station in Delaware. His band, Killwhitneydead, cites the influence of Dominance in using samples from movies and various other sources in their music, influenced by the “Look Where We Worship” demo. Looking back 20 years later, Dominance left some music that is as vital as any metal from that era. Thanks to Matt and his team at Divebomb/Tribunal Records, it has been RESURRECTED!.... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .... ....LAYOUT BY:.. ..DAYWALKER CREATIVE.... .. ........ .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..
