Paik PAIK (pake) - an old English word meaning a powerful blow to the body, or to pummel. With 10 years out the tailpipe, PAIK continues to pursue their road trip of the cosmos with the release of the 5th full length, Monster of the Absolute, and a 10 year live DVD, entitled Magnesium Fire, both released in summer,2006. The new material finds them at a songwriting high, and exploring fields of radiant, undulating frequencies undiscovered on previous releases. Harkening backwards, they have toured with notables such as Stephen Malkmus, BRMC, Windy&Carl, Subarachnoid Space, and left crowds smiling at CMJ 2004, SXSW 2005, Terrastock 5 2003, Terrastock 6 2006, and the MIT senior steer roast 2006. Countless compilation appearances, a THRASHER MAGAZINE skater of the year DVD score, and split CD with KINSKI, and SURFACE OF ECEON are also to their credit. Its difficult to see into the crystal ball that they have rattling around in the back of their van, but one thing is certain space is deep, and PAIK has a full tank of petrol.
Described as a giant, swirling, maelstrom capable of filling most any venue with lush textured soundscapes, at volumes that let the listener stand breifly in this trio's shoes and feel the truth an honesty from which their sounds emanate. At live performances, an equally engaging light show allows an individual the opportunity to let go of the here and now, and travel somewhere much more soothing, where time ceases to exist.

Our new album "Herbarium" is
out now on CdBaby (MP3 so far, physical CD is on its way).
Diverse palette of styles (post-rock,
ambient, electronica, trip-hop, with elements of noise, dub,
neoclassic and free improvisation), united by cinematic, slightly
pensive mood.
«Herbarium» is called so
because of heterogeneity of «songs», which can be
compared to miscellaneous leaves in the album, still being belonged
to the family of trees. Trying to avoid non-alive metaphors here,
only thought of diversity and warm and innermost feeling that
herbarium is capable to conjure up. «... This leaf I picked up
in the park where I met her, and this - I sat by the river,
contemplating...». So tracks were created – one was captured
in some magic jam, another – recorded layer by layer and
meticulously mixed then, next – cut from previous sessions and so
on.
All compositions are united by Poostosh
sense of music – mostly pensive, spatial, tender and experimental.
There's a lot of soul and charisma in every leaf... So please let
your soul look over our HERBARIUM.
Hope you try and support us so we can make this happen. We have been around for 2 years now and our dream needs your help. Ladies or Gents it don't matter. Join our site and help make this cause happen. Let's get more ladies out there on bikes. Click to join
