Here’s what has been said so far:
“They're one of the tightest, most together bands I've seen in ages. You could spend an age trying to pin them down for a pigeon hole, but you won't do it. The references are all there - a dash of Talking Heads here, a sprinkling of Strokes there, a touch of Radiohead now and then. Fact is that Palace Ballet have mastered a pretty timeless brand of guitar pop that manages to be sophisticated, clever and downright goddamned catchy.”
IN THE CITY 09 REVIEW
“Theres a song called 'Some Girls' by Palace Ballet which I think is as immediately catchy as it gets. But if that doesn’t do it for you give 'Novel' a listen. Once you hear the chorus you’ll want to hear it again. A bit like smack for the ears. Theres no band that springs to mind to compare them to, which is always a good thing. I’ll just say they sound good and leave it at that.”
NEW-MUSIC-SCOTLAND.co.uk
“Palace Ballet were tight-tight-tight and played out disjointed staccato rhythms and confident performances with beautiful male vocals”
THE LIST
“Palace Ballet make tight, meticulous indie rock with a list of influences that runs from David Byrne to Devendra Banhart”
THE SCOTSMAN
“There’s a bit of a Post-Arctic Monkeys vibe here”
STEVE LAMACQ (We hope he meant the 2nd album)
“Been listening to this demo a lot this week. The closest sound that springs to mind is perhaps that of The Strokes”
JIM GELLATLY
“…Like how you mixed some reggae into that song…”
VIC GALLOWAY
“Now, here is a band that knows how to play together. Drawing on numerous foreign influences - whether musical or literary - if it wasn't, ironically, for their vocal harmonies, you'd swear they weren't Scottish”
