Ha! I TOTALLY agree myself. What a well written entry - sorry I missed it before. I don't think hate is too strong a word & I love the part about it being for lazy composers (and, I'm sorry, predominantly for white suburban people - could it be any more generic?) I agree on the hymns (love "Junebug", by the way), in fact, "Softly & Tenderly" is one of my favorites & Dan & I do it often when we lead worship. It's hilarious the response you engendered on all fronts - Christians can be a hilarious bunch sometimes - amazing how often the point is missed? I think the bottom line is the homogeneous sameness that we know of praise music today is really just a marketing thing: one person made tons of off this, so if everyone does it the same, continuing to recreate the wheel, they'll make $$, too. Sick, but TRUE! I mention Norman's death as a "blast from the past", not as I've listened to him or most xian music in years. I respect the xians who are just doing music, good music, letting who they are be expressed in it (& doing music that is actually creative & respectfully using the gifts they were given, instead of mass copying everyone else). Anyway, I digress... see, your entry still invokes response! Can't wait to see you SOON.
Speaking of missing Mullins, how come it took the Grammy's last night for me to find out Larry Norman died? Did you hear that? Weird. I remember (secretly) listening to him when I was 14.
Sorry to hear about your driving misadventures. It takes awhile to get really used to it - I've learned a whole slew of aggressive techniques and certainly my way around over the years but it takes time. It has taken away my fear to drive overseas or in random cities, though, on the plus side (though Dan usually does that when we travel anyway). Hated to miss you - we're having a great time already. Visiting Jon Trerise & his wife in Miami for the weekend, then off to NO tomorrow!
Only one more show of Belgium left and that's it. We have no idea when our next live show will be. Don't miss it. If you've seen it before there are new sketches!
We would love for you to join us for our first ever Disneyland Digital Safari on Sunday, September 24th! Get your team together and be prepared for a fun day! Click on the Banner to register!!!
