GODS & MONSTERS ART SHOW: NEW WORKS BY PALE HORSE AND ALLEN HAMPTON

Starting Saturday, December 12th through Saturday, December 19th, Pale Horse Graphic Design and Art Gallery presents “Gods & Monsters”, a new two-man exhibit featuring brand new works by Pale Horse (www.palehorsedesign.com) and Allen Hampton (www.allenhampton.net).

Digital illustrator and graphic designer, Chris Parks (internationally recognized in the art community as Pale Horse) is presenting a complete collection of new works for the first time in this exhibit. A graduate of Ringling School of Art and Design and local gallery owner, Pale Horse’s designs are heavily inspired by the dark arts, foreign cultures, and the epic stories told in ancient mythology and religion.

From Hanuman, the leader of the Thai monkey army, to Amaterasu, the Shinto sun goddess, to the Virgin Mary, mother of the Christian savior, Pale Horse puts his own interpretation on these characters with his use of intricate line work, vivid colors, and a clever mash up of textures and symbolic elements.

“When you look at history, many of the greatest artistic expressions have been influenced by faith and/or fear. So I wanted to share my love of the gods and monsters in ancient and present times,” explained Chris Parks. “And I’m just really excited to show an entire collection, especially in my town.”

With his Master’s Degree in Fine Art from the University of South Florida, Allen Hampton is a multi-faceted artist, who initially established himself as a graffiti artist and after dabbling in multiple mediums, now draws mostly in blood—pig’s blood to be specific. Allen’s blood drawings are painstakingly constructed with tedious detail, layers of depth and thought-provoking composition.

“My blood drawings are the anchor to my artistic production and a commentary on futility and pointlessness, as well as the concept of desensitization,” stated Allen. Regarding the theme of the show, “I have consistently used myth and religion in my own work, but I am approaching the work for this show in a different manner. I’m not focusing on a comparison of myself with mythological and religious figures, but more on those close to me, in an attempt to connect more with the people who support me so strongly.”

The opening reception is Saturday, December 12th from 7:00PM - 11:00PM at 19 Dr. MLK Jr. St. S., St. Petersburg, FL. There is no cover and all ages are welcome. New t-shirts and merchandise by Pale Horse will also be debuted at the opening.

I love this dude’s work so I wanted to see what we could do if we mixed our styles. This piece is inspired by Balinese mythology and general “badassness.” I’m really happy with the way it came out.
