Biog
Formed in 2003 at Lancaster University, Palmstruck are now based in Manchester. As an ambitious band mixing accessible songs with elements of experimental soundscapes, the result is “pretty much unrelated to anything else going on in Manchester right now” (Cath Aubergine, manchestermusic.co.uk).
The founding members Rigg (vox/guitars/piano), Kip (synths/programming) and Al (drums) have provided the backbone throughout the inevitable line-up changes that all aspiring bands undergo. However, the addition in mid-2007 of Ant (bass) and Mark (guitars/noise) has sculpted the band’s current, and most impressive, form. In their live shows, pounding drums and driving bass are perfectly juxtaposed with ethereal keys, subtle vocals and unusual guitar effects. They are receiving consistent praise from the press and have earned the respect of some of the North West's biggest promoters, culminating in one-off support slots for bands such Two Gallants, 65daysofstatic, and Pure Reason Revolution.
Their music is inspired by a variety of different artists, reflecting the diverse tastes of each band member. These range from Radiohead to Bjork, Deftones to Astor Piazzolla, The Bad Plus to Burial, Mono to Charles Mingus.
They are now signed to Liverpool’s Project Records and their first EP - 'The Spoiler' is available now in digipack format to buy on here, at live shows, or on iTunes. Their debut album is to follow in 2009.
"This fivesome from Manchester show a brave commitment to experimentation… but the emphasis is far more on the beautiful than the bleak." -
The Student Guide, Tour Review
"Single 'The Spoiler' offers an upbeat mix of beats and electrified goodness… Palmstruck have ample ability and no shortage of ideas." -
Sandman, Single Review
"The Spoiler” is a perfect example of singer Riggs’ purposeful and attractively soulful melodies… It’s Palmstruck at their best." -
Manchester Music, EP Review
"Building from a foundation of solid bass and piano, they throw on layers of crashing noise, wayward guitars and interestingly understated vocals to make something that's part shoegaze revival, part prog, but relentlessly powerful." -
Manchester Music, 65daysofstatic Support Review
