New EP "Hawaiianized"

"Pamela Polland’s new CD is a musically relaxing work of art. The arrangements and vocals are fresh and yet, tip the hat to the original feeling and meaning of the songs. Case in point is Over the Rainbow. This version of my Father's classic composition lifts the spirit while still tugging at the heartstrings to remind us that there is really no place like home. This disc deserves a home in your collection."

Sam Arlen

Son of Harold Arlen, composer of Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

This is my latest music project "Hawaiianized":

Co-produced with John McFee (Doobie Bros). John played ALL the instruments, and I played 'ukulele on Rainbow. John and Sharon Celani (backing vocalist for Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac) sang all those wonderful back-up vocals. Arenʻt they great?? I LOVE working with them.

"Hawaiianized" is available for purchase on iTunes and my Music Store.

I live on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawai‘i. I love the Hawaiian culture and I‘m a student of traditional Hawaiian music and language. I play ‘ukulele and lead a four piece Hawaiian band named Keaolani. We specialize in the arrangements once popularized by Kahauanu Lake. Our kumu (teacher) is K.Lakeʻs protege, Walter Kawai‘ae‘a.

I also play piano, write contemporary songs and enjoy the collaboration with fellow colleagues like Bobby Parrs, of Bobby‘s Backing Tracks, country legend Steve Zuwala, jazz pianist Martan Mann, and Doobie Bros multi-talented band member John Mc Fee. I currently teach voice on Maui, and also via Skype :)

Some of you may know my history as a founding member of the Gentle Soul, performing with Ry Cooder in a duo, back-up vocalist for Mad Dogs & Englishmen, or from my solo career as recording artist and songwriter on the Columbia Records label. Information from these past projects, and more, can be found on my personal website.

Along with performing with Keaolani locally on Maui, Iʻm currently working on a recording project with John McFee and Sharon Celani (backing vocalist for Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac). Iʻve chosen several wonderful popular songs and weʻre giving them a Hawaiian style treatment as you can hear in the music player on this page.

Later this year (2010), I expect to be recording with John and Sharon again for a "Volume 2" of Hawaiianized as well as recording an album of jazz standards with the great Martan Mann. And who knows what other surprises I might have in store!! I promise to update this page as my new projects become available.

One of my greatest joys is swimming in the ocean and enjoying the exciting life which lives within it. I have a group of friends I call my "Mermaid Posse" and we go on long adventure swims - often encountering dolphins in the wild, sea turtles, rays and, during Winter, Humpback whales!

My husband (Bill) is my greatest treasure, with my wonderful friends running a close second.
