Influences
All manners and manifestations of craziness and magic influence us! Below are some pics of Banana, Potato, and magical places they went to. The sculptures and surreal occurrences you see are from Burning Man 2007.
Sounds Like
Sounds like a very large citrus fruit being crammed into the hard drive of your computer, and then oozing out of the disk drives into your mouth and onto your lap, and pouring out of the speakers, squirting into your ears and eyes. The nectar-like juice reaches your brain and causes multiple orgasms and vocal squeals and then proceeds to travel in your veins until it reaches your heart, where the juice calmly rests, and appeases your thirst for the bitterness of love, and the joy of tropical fruits.
Behold! And welcome all. This absurdist improv psychedelic circus band from Montreal, Quebec, explores the juicy world of gleeful musical explosions, spontaneous poetry and experimental forays to the frontiers of electronic music and noise-jazz. In a constant journey of improvisation and new parameters, no Pamplemousse performance ever resembles the previous one. (For english speakers, 'pamplemousse' = 'grapefruit' en français).
Pamplemousse Explosion was composed of the legendary Potato on percussion and the delicious Banana, ..s and vocals. They delighted in rocking your innards inside out as they revealed the sweet and sour musical squishiness of their terribly disturbed imaginations. They began performing together in Montreal in 2005, blazing a trail of mirth and chaos wherever they went. In 2006, Pamplemousse Explosion released an independent album called ‘Sorry, Cecil’ and toured in several North American cities with the Infringement Festival. In 2007, Pamplemousse Explosion toured the East Coast of Canada with acclaimed indie rockers, The Fussy Part. Among many exploits, they made an appearance in Tadoussac, Quebec with fellow noise-makers, Ploz, and played on a pirate ship at the Burning Man festival in Nevada. At the end of 2007, after a fruitful career and many wild journeys, they retired their grapefruit and dynamite to pursue other projects.
But fear not! Banana and Potato can be located causing ruckus in their other endeavors. Banana is now working on her solo project 'Banana & the Flying Colors' and also performs in her glitchy freak folktronica beand 'Feast of Spirits'. Potato is now the amazing DJ Guestlist, exploring crunk and grime and deep bassy awesomeness. He also plays drums in his free jazz ensemble, Corse. Check out the links in the friends list below to see their current activities. Merci pour écouter et on vous aime beaucoup!
Come, observe some visual pample-magic in this entertaining music video made by Isabella Geddes and Aimee Beauchamp for the song "J'ai perdu mon agenda." The surprise ending is quite a killer. Share it at will! Perhaps it will catch on in Japan.
The song in the above video is entitled "J'ai perdu mon agenda" ("I lost my agenda") and it was recorded by the music production wizard George Massenburg along with his students Marcela Zorro, Jeremy Tusz, R.E Gaskell, Nathan Moore and Jason O'Connell in Studio A, at the McGill Music Conservatory, Montreal, in November 2005. Cello by Marie-Claire Lavigueur and bass by Ninn Langel. The cello arrangement was written by Darren Fung. The music video was created by Isabelle Geddes and Aimée Beauchamp. The actors in the video are Derek Hanna, Alexandre Aubertin, David Goldapple, and Lou Kosak. Banana's dress was designed by her best friend, Stephanie Murphy. Many thanks to Laura Nishikawa for her help and support throughout making of this production.
While we are at it, here is another amusing short video made by Josh Usheroff for the song "The Egg" in 2005. Originally written by Banana under the guise of her old identity Anna Daño, this song was later re-adapted with Potato to become a Pamplemousse Explosion classic. This short features cameo appearances by their pals Ben Goloff and Oliver Lewis. The production itself was made by Banana's friends Josh Usheroff, Ben Goloff and Matthew Zuckerman.
